The Canon EFS 10-22mm is listed in the Tin Cheung Camera website (Hong Kong), as $4725 HKD. That works out to be about S$963. I have a colleague who will be going to HK tomorrow for a holiday. I am thinking of asking her to get it for me. I think the price is for grey set without warranty. Here it cost $1140 with warranty. What do you guys think?

Oracle sells it at $1080 WITH a one year local warranty.
Go figure. Ok I'll put to put it simply, it isn't worth all the trouble and effort. The savings isn't great enough... AND you'll owe your colleague one. If the price were around $900 you might want to consider, but at 963 for a grey set, I'd rather choose one with a local warranty. Now if the Hong Kong set came with an international warranty, it would be a different issue completely.... Last edited by solarii; 27th May 2006 at 10:17 PM. |

I'd rather not trouble others with such purchases
and I don't think the saving here is that much different - probably pay more and get warranty ![]() |

Are you sure the HK set does not come with international warranty? If it does, I think it would be worth the trouble.

Thanks for the comments. The savings is not that great and have to trouble my colleague though she willingly offered to help me buy it. Moreover, she will not know how to inspect the lens before buying it. That is why I am hesitating.
As for the warranty, I read in this forum that Tin Chueng prices are cheaper because it does not have International Warranty. |

The site http://www.ygdragon.net/ have the 10-22mm at 5,100HKD or S$1040 using the same exchange rate. Would this come with Int'l warranty?
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Zoom 變焦 5,800 5,100 1/5/2006 Kowloon Lxfe I reckon if you can bring it back free of gst, it's still cheaper but than again Oracle have got a great price at $1080 and it's hassle free! Now, if only Oracle can do it at S$1040, life would be a breeze ![]() |

Asking someone to hand carry a lens back has it's own problems.. What happen if the lens come back not working, got focus problems, has scratches.. what are you going to do? Even if it has international warranty, it does not cover scratches.. If you get it from Oracle, upon inspection if there is any defect, you can always ask for another set, or reject it there and then.. Rather than having to live with the fact that you bought a brand new not-so-perfect lens or brand new "repaired" lens.. Personally, I insist on inspecting goods before I buy, rather than having to go through the hassle of rectifying it later..

Tin Cheung Camera is probably dealing in grey sets. It's like our TCW, only much bigger in scale.

They deal with both grey and warranty sets. FYI, prices quoted there are cheaper than the listed price in their website
I was there just 3 weeks ago. Can almost die there... all your dream lens are there, but no $$$![]() |

I just got back from HK two nights back and I stayed about 300m from Tin Cheung. I asked about warranty and they said that it is international. The prices there are really good. The 17-55 is going for around 1.6k SGD

wow serious? The 17-55 F2.8 is going for only 1.6k? Maybe it's time for me to sell my 17-40L and replace it with this wonderful lens, hmmmmm

I spent days walking around Kowloon and Mongkok area. Tin Cheung is the most friendly and reasonably priced shop. I won't go anywhere else if I had to go HK again to buy any camera equipment. I bought a 10-22 + Hood, 24-105L + Hood and B+W UV Filter for both.... for $3k approx.
