Optically the same as the F2.8 version, half the weight (a big plus) and filter size of 67mm, which can be a pain.
But other than that, it is ideal for travelling and outdoor... |

More specifically .... how does this lens compare optically with the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX APO HSM which costs $1260 at MS Color.

Optically, it is almost as good as the L lenses, the L quality will show when you enlarge your photos beyond 4R. Personally, I like the colour rendition of the L lenses
![]() Just my 2 cents, the L series lenses have much better resale value than Sigma, if you're ever thinking of upgrading to a 70-200 F2.8L IS next time ![]() One last thing to add, Sigma's QC is not very good, compared to Canon, so you may get the same model of lenses with varied quality. I used a friends Sigma 70-200 HSM for a week. It make some strange high pitch squeaking noise when AFing. Not like stuff moving, but more like some speaker feedback sounds. Very strange. Poor friend of mine who bought the len. Got stuck with it. Sucker!

Quoted $1200 from TCW.
There was another 2nd hand one at $950. Handled the lens : . feels light . personally feel that bit light, long and thin . doesn't feel too solid ![]() . checked the glass...comestically not too impressive.. ![]() . may balance well with my EOS 30 though.. . perhaps the 2.8L feels better comestically.. dark |
