They are a banned organisation in China,
official reasoning by Chinese Govt. Subversive behaviour official reasoning by Falun Gong. China govt is immoral and is afraid of the good morals of Falun Gong. Whatever it is.... Falun Gong followers are quite numerous in Singapore not only among the Chinese Expat Community but also Singaporean. A friend's uncle whom I know personally is the head of the Singaporean Falun Gong Branch. Sometimes you can see this lady in glasses outside Guan Yin temple seated in a meditative position and surrounded by posters alleging abuses by the Chinese Govt against its followers. Sometimes can see small groups outside the chinese embassy too. Of course our police will swing into action and remove them. Im actually quite surprised they were allowed to participate in the matter they did at the New Paper Big Walk. Considering that we are trying to build strong ties with China and on the other hand allowing an organisation that is deem of extreme danger to China's national sercurity and subversive to show itself in such a big way. |

A clever way to circumvent local laws.
They can't demonstrate cos gatherings of more than 5 people are illegal... so they gather at events like TNP Big Walk! At such events, organisations or companies usually send down a team or two to take part. The teams will bear the logos/banners of their organisations/companies. So these guys just join in. Nothing the police can do.... for now. Remember pod casts and how quickly they got clamped down? Haha I LURVE to see them take part in a triathlon. Carry the big banners, drums and swim, cycle, run. THEN I will say their *Far Loon* stuff very the *powderful*. Heck I will join to learn Carry banner and walk like NDP no kick. Even my grandma can do. No need this gong that gong. Eh but I must say their rows very straight ah! As good as NDP GOH contingent. Maybe should ask them to take part NDP. No need so many rehearsals. They never practice already so straight! Imagine rehearse 1 or 2 times.... Last edited by solarii; 26th May 2006 at 10:28 PM. |

Haha, this FLG thing in Bigwalk, and many other spontaneous performances is almost becoming like a Mardi Gras thing - some kind of street festival.
Wasted, I missed all these free show and shooting. Must make it a point to shoot kaopun next year. I hope the garmen doesn't clam down on all these - can be a tourist attraction, you know?

It's different cos this is a religious organisation. Frankly I never feel comfortable when religious organisations display such show of force by turning up in large groups. I think that organisers of big walk should take note of such loopholes and prevent such incidents again. If not next year, we see other religious groups start walking in parade contingent manner. |
