WB is irrelevant to me. I shoot RAW, but I leave it on AWB so I can see what it'll look like.

From my personal experience, diff cameras has different response to WB settings and hence different settings. It varies from equipment, personal preference and also the race that u are shooting.
Examples of my friends who used diff cameras 1. 10D - AWB accurate so pp just set it to AWB 2. 20D - Use daylight setting 3. 20D with mertz - Mertz Flash is strong and therefore simulate as daylight |

However, I sometimes shoot with tungsten white balance at noon to get bluer images Similar to using tungsten film at night to really get the blues ![]() |

I usually use custom WB only when shooting indoors with fluorescent lighting... dun like the bluish hue on AWB... but I like the warm tones under tungsten light and therefore usually shoot on AWB with warm lights... day time outdoor shots are handled perfectly almost AWB so I dun really care to change the WB mode...

I use Custom White Balance.
However I use different light sources depending on the lighting effect I desire. I find to get ideal white balance I need to readjust custom white balance everytime I change a light source for a shot. And I also notice that the different diffusion materials I put in front of the light source have an effect on my white balance. I think for my case it is probably better for me to do tests and work out my white balance with adjustment on colour temperature so that I know which light needs which colour temperature setting instead of having to go through a custom white balance procedure everytime I change lighting setup for a shot. Or the DSLR has storage of custmer white balance settings so that I could use setting 1 for such and such a shot and setting 2 for another shot. I don't think my DSLR has such a function yet. Anyway just a question, if u shoot indoors under low light but don't use flash, will the custom WB captured using flash be applicable? Never tried it. |
