Default E330 live view --WB setting

Hi E330 owners,

Just like to know is the E330 live view LCD capable of showing the actual WB effect (live) according to your WB adjustment just like what a cam-corder does?

TIA
cheers

just curious. From what I read from reviews, I THINK the live view does not reflect the WB settings. Am I right? Just curious, it would be great if I can judge roughly the WB on the LCD.

Wrong forum. Should be posted under "Four Third System" not Olympus. Ask admin to move because it may be intersting for others also to read.

Second this... don't make any WB judgement based on the Live View and also, under low lighting condition, don't get too spooked by the grain/noise (sorry, old man like me still uses film terms once in a while).

I don't have the E-330 but what I do is I set the WB using the one touch WB settings to set WB. Easy and quick and WB is correctly set. I take a test shot, check in the display and then start shooting. Usually I am not too concerned, shooting RAW allows me to fix WB errors later.

AFAIK, the live view sensor is not the same as the main sensor so I would not rely on that one regardless of the quality.

but mode B it is using the actual sensor. Kind of funny that oly did implement live WB, live histogram in E330. I guess those are for the next E330 replacement. + the rumored sensor stabilization, the new oly sounds very nice.

Actually it should be possible to have live WB and live exposure compensation on the E-330 even if it is only in Mode B since this is possible in the L1. Maybe Olympus can issue a firmware upgrade to enable this.

Looks like this is a possibility with the new E-400 replacement/new model to the E-400.

Looking forward to PMA now... torn between the new E-1 successor and the E-400 updated model.

Let's see, I will need two carbines (with scope), 10 mags, additional crate of ammo, half a dozen grenades, a dozen claymore mines, trip wire, AP rounds, 2 LAW, and a Humvee and two 40 footer container loaded with sand.

Oh... and then pick the bank.

Arn't that an overkill!!!! I am sure you won't need to pick on a bank for that. IF you say the red dot one yes..but Oly's...na.

Hmmm.... but this means I have to travel to the Oly showroom in Japan. They have all the good stuff there... not enough in the Singapore showroom... at least not the lens that I am dying for too...

If you intend to do that, then make sure you get someone to order all the made to order range as well...so by the time you get there, you get the full range.
Don't forget the underwater casing and attachments.

I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing here. Perhaps more experienced Oly users here can correct me if I'm doing it wrong. To get the "right" WB, I point the camera to the area I want to take and remember the recommended exposure settings. Then I switch to Manual mode and set the same settings. Lastly, I switch to either LV A or B mode and fire away. Normally the results turns out pretty acceptable.

No, to set the WB the whole image area must be covered by an image taken off of a white or an 18% grey card, it does not have to be part of the subject. It does not matter if the card is not in focus, what matters is that it is lit up completely with the light you will use on your subject. Then press One touch WB and shutter and if you like what you see on your pre-view LCD, press OK. From now on the WB is set to the right light colour. Now the camera keeps the WB until you manually change it, it will not change if you switch off the camera. If the lighting is not changed your colours will be right from now on. You don't have to switch to manual settings or do anything complicated. I only have the E-500, so no point telling you which pages to read, but if you look for the words "one touch white balance" in your PDF manual it is probably explained there in your manual also. WB has nothing to do with LV as far as I know, in fact I think LV uses a different WB sensor, so no point setting WB after what you see in your Live View display. It is the final image you want to look right, not the LV display.

BTW, what you describe is how to measure exposure, that is to set shutter speed and aperture and not the WB.

Hi OlyFlyer,

Thank you so much for pointing out my mistakes I'll look into that never ending PDF again. Sometimes, I'm just too lazy to read it from the first to the last page before "firing away". Too impatient to try out things I guess

You are most welcome. So, you are lazy and don't know the manual by heart? Well, that makes you a human. Actually, I had to spend some time last night to figure out how to use the one touch WB. That is because that button is user programmable and I programmed it to be the DOF preview and not the WB. I forgot that and unfortunately the E-500 manual does not remind the reader about that pitfall on the page where the One touch WB is discussed. So initially it took me a while to figure out that the problem was the manual page. I do not use the option so often, since I mostly use daylight or flash, which is also the same. I also take all critical images in RAW, that way WB can always be fixed later.

Actually, I did read the advanced manual from the first to the last page before I received my camera and once again with my camera in my hands but I still can not remember everything. Maybe its age or just pure stupidity...
