Hi allPlease do not mind me if i ask stupid questions as I'm new to DSLRs I wanted to buy a DSLR which D50 fits perfectly into my budget and the specification looks ok to me. As a amateur I like some 'auto' feature which sometimes i prefer to snap it in that mode. But some people recomends me buying D70(or Canon 350D)... and times i see posting @ B&S site selling D100 body for a resonable price which i am tempted to buy. But i got advice that the higher range of DSLRs(D100/200, D1 /2) is fully manual and you have to be pro to use that kind of camera... is it true? Or whats your view? Thanks all in advance ![]() |

If you like the D50, just get it. Why bother about what others feel, you're the user of the camera, not them.
Just like if I like a Nikon FM2, why bother about what others feel about D100/D200 etc? It's me, not them. As regards to "pro" then can use, let's just put it this way, as long as the pictures come out good, who the h*ll cares what you use ![]() Shoot more, talk later. |

Correct. If D50 meets your budget and requirements, buy...
Don't have to be pro to use D100, D200, D1 etc. If you are willing to spend, you can buy them all and use it too. They all could be operated like a fully auto point and shoot camera, if you want. |

i guess u are coming from a prosumer background?
if u want auto-everything, straight to print kind of DSLR, then nikon's D50 shld fit the bill. it has most of the useful features of the slightly more upmarket D70/70s dat a 'happy snapper' will need. but, if u want to 'grow' with the cam, then you might get 'tired' of the D50. one irksome thing abt the D50 IMO is dat u have to scroll thru the menu to activate/deactivate certain features - things dat are on the dial on a D70/70s. perfectly fine for people coming from a prosumer/auto-everything shooter. but some might want to when using...so, bottom line - ask urself wat u want to use it for. personally, my D50 is my family PnS camera. something dat even my wife won't be too intimidated to use. ![]()

I think the D50 is a great camera, as I have read, it is good for shooting Jpeg. I think if u are learning to shoot, and would be using the diff modes, then i think D50 is good. when u feel more comfortable playing with more controls, the camera will also let u do it too!
but as espn say, getting the shot is actually the impt thing! not the camera!

I have used the D50 for about 3 months.....so far I'm quite happy with it......
I never bothered about the picture modes.......I prefer playing around with manual settings...... Picture quality is good( with kit lens and can be better if u use better lens)..... ![]() |

Yup I'm from a prosumer background... it all just happen... my camera fell in to water, someone lent me his 300d and it just happen....the more i snap the more i love the camera... But instead of getting the more advance one I'd think D50 would fit my 'bill', actually I had been thinking of getting the DSLR long ago but was scared abt the 'buy buy buy virus' (Lens, Flash accessories...) maybe you can share the experience? |

but... dats not the point of using D50. by far, the D50 has one of the better straight to print jpgs for nikon DSLRs.

you might even consider getting a waterproof casing for the d50. Just in case it falls into the water again

Oh you the more you shoot and the more you learn... the more you will feel like upgrading.
It's been only 2 months and I already feel like upgrading from my D50 ![]()

beening using d50 for 2mths+, so far so good for me. I would rather build up on lens rather than upgrading from d50 (if given a choice of either one)
