I'm using the Tokina 28AT-X 270AF Pro II and I find the auto is focus fast and fairly accurate. I haven't tried Tamron 28-75 so I can't say.

The Tamron is sharp when you get a good copy, fast AF too.
The Tokina is large and heavy but then the pic quality is good. AF slightly slower than the Tamron.

I am very satisfied with my tamron 28-75mm.
It is pretty sharp at 28mm even wide open. Not much improvement even if you stepped down. At 75mm, the contrast at f2.8 is not very good. The black is not as black when you stopped down to f4. But it gets 90% there when you use f3.3 so not too bad lor. Just use f3.3. If you are buying a tamron, remember to test the 75mm performance as I THINK for most constant aperture zoom lens, the weakest link is always the tele end wide open. And I think it holds focus across the zoom range, ie if you have difficulty is getting correct focus on your subject at 28mm, you can zoom in to 75mm and focus, then zoom out to shoot. There is a "Others" in the "Equipment Section" to discuss other brands. Please read the rules and regulation before posting.
Since you are relative new I shall move this thread to "Others" instead of deleting this thread. BTW this is the second time, yesterday was your "Lens Cap" posting! PE Mod Nikon |

i have the older orange ring version of the tokina 28-70 F2.8
no regrets, big & heavy but sharp and tough. Used to be my default lens on my SLR but now the focal range not so useful on my dslr (1.5 crop) ![]()

For me, the Tm28-75 is a great portrait lens, at an eq of 42-105 range for dSLR. Still very sharp at 100% from my D70 6Mp sensor.
