hi,
was using the D200 with SB600.... and noticed that the SB600 will auto flash by itself for no reason.... i was not even touching the shutter release button, holding camera still and flash just went off by itself...a few times.... today not the first time liao, noticed this a couple of days back.... tried the flash on the D70, but no such problem... so i think it is not the SB600 flash problem. anyone can share what is the problem? what is wrong? thanks

does the flash fire normally when u press the shutter button?
maybe ur camera hot shoe contact with the flash is not good. if that's the case, just use an eraser to rub the hot shoe contacts a bit to remove watever dirt or oxidation that is on the metal contacts. just a suggestion though i think it might not be so simple coz usually contact problems result in flash not firing instead of anyhow firing... ![]() |

the flash will fire when the center contact( the largest) comes is short to the lower right pin. check see if there is anything between these 2 contacts. like water droplets, some metal stuff etc. these are the same 2 contacts on manual flash that needs to be triggered to fire the flash

you can use a multi-meter to measure the current on the body as describe above if there is a change/jump in current then you know is your body liao. Time to go NSC.

Your using a more sensitive setting for the battery then you are for the hotshoe, i suggest trying again with the more sensitive setting on the hotshoe

actually tried all multimeter setting, from not sensitive to super sensitive....
picture of the multimeter happen to be taken at different settings only... just to be doubly sure, i tried again with the multimeter on all settings... no current still... even tested on the contacts of the SB600... also no shorting detected.... hmm.... tricky isn't it?
