given their size, 80mm reach probably isnt enough to fill the frame. but more importantly, if your objective is panning, then given their relative speed & insane turning-radius(scaled up to around 200 to 300km/hr & 90deg turns), trying to anticipate & follow these would be f****ing hard as hell to do. But they make damn frustrastingly damn good practice for panning...
good luck =) |

cars look too small in overall picture. But if closeup, the car wont look good too as they dont have details.

wan practice panning? juz go to any express way with a normal zoom range 28-75 and start trying there until you can get a high hit rate
i don really see any panning done on the pic other than a slight one on pic 2 and some on pic 4. A brigher blackground will make the panning blur more obvious as well |

It really depends on what lens you've got, but generally you'll be able to get shots with both a standard zoom and a mid-telephoto. As the track is generally small with no objects blocking your line of sight and easily covered from just about any position, even short ranged lenses find a use in corners that are close to you. Get as low as you can to shoot, and yes, after panning these cars, you'll find bigger objects a cinch to pan.
I have a few samples I'd posted before: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Have to agree with you.. To be honest, most of the other panning shots i took, didn't turned out that well, either blurred due to camera shake or off focus. |
