Default Does nikon lens warranty covers front element scratches?

i didn't noticed it under normal light until my lens surfaces condenses when i took it out from an air-con room then i started to see the swirls. i didn't know why that happened becos i almost always put my filter on it all the times.

i didn't know if i should try to clean myself with some cleaning solution or leave it to the expert at nikon since i'm a newbie.

I am not doubting you but that is very difficult to proof where/when is the mark came from.
It could came from factory/shop but now that the lens is at your hand and used.

iirc, most people would not recommend using a cleaning solution on their lens, reason being that the solution may be too strong/corrosive on the lens coating. I simply use a lens cloth and my breath.

I highly doubt that the warranty would cover scratches on the front element.

Anyway, as long as the "swirls" don't affect your pictures, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Although we were told or taught not to touch the front lens elements of our lens, but one of the best lens cleaning agent is still your finger oil. *Ouch! Don't flame me...!!*

Use your finger to gently rub on the lens surface in a rotary motion. It usually removes things like watermarks and simple stains. But use a soft cloth or a Lens Pen to clean off the finger oil after that so the the oil won't dry up and damage the lens element. The front coating of your lens is strong enough and won't come off easily unless you use a strong solvent like what Hobbesyeo had mentioned.

If it still won't come off, it might be a scratch. I won't worry too much about a scratch as it won't really affect picture quality unless it is a really big one which will cause flare & ghosting in your image.

think its resonable to check w agent. i once wanted to but a 35-70/2.8 and it was last piece. when i look thru the glass, the 2nd element INSIDE the lens actually has a scratch mark of about 3mm long. cant be anyone scratching unless you open up the lens to do it.

I won't claim that I know a lot but I think it is in most company's practice not to QC every individual product. It will be very time consuming and what they usually do is maybe pick out 20 or 30 pieces from each lot for inspection. If any single piece fails or in the case of some company, certain percentage failure, then the whole lot would be rejected. It will be faster and more efficient to let go the whole lot upon random inspection, and if there is any customer complains then they service it than checking every piece. If Nikon check every piece, I won't even be holding my 17-55mm lens today as it will still be sitting in the factory in Japan awaiting the inspection.

This I agreed if it is make in PRC.

But for Japan that is a big big issue to them if you able to show that to their CEO.
It is about face issue.

seem like you can't.

And I do not need the additional 4 items for that purpose.
