Hi
You may not have seen the activity that is required to bring fish to Singapore. A lot of fishing trawlers dock at Jurong Fish port. However some wholesalers go to Malaysia to buy fish for sale to Singapore. The trawlers dredge the seas off Tioman and the South China Sea to bring seafood for sale. Here are some photos ![]() A winch offloads CHILLED Seafood (not frozen) off the trawlers ![]() Wholesale Buyers charge like hungry creatures to grab what they want. ![]() Shark, Marlin.. Trawling catches EVERYTHING, baby and Juvinile and Adult fish, I even saw Scallops and Lobsters. Nothing escapes the net. I believe the Coral they destroy is also thrown overboard as they sort the fish. ![]() Big Buyers place the fish into a box that has a bottom of chipped ice and mixed with water, The Seafood will be SANDWICHED between layers of chipped ice and water. ![]() Sedilli Fishing Port : All products reserved for sale to Singapore. A Sedilli Trawler fisherman told me that it takes RM10,000 in Disel Fuel for a few days trip , EXCLUDING Salary of the workers on board. He cannot afford to sell locally in Sedilli If you find some other places near Singapore that I can go and investigate, please share. I like to buy seafood from such places as they are definitely fresh and prices are much better than Singapore. Pontian: I heard the fish market there is very reasonable as the trawlers unload their stuff there.. Anyinputs on this? Does anyone know where in Malaysia I can buy fresh fish from the small scale fisherman direct? Allan |
