Default The State of Affairs

When I first found this site, it sort of exhumed my dying passion for photography. I was just playing with my F100 and moving to the D100.
Now I've even ventured into getting myself a D200 with other stuff added to it and reenjoying my adventures with taking pictures for me and my family to enjoy! However, the emjoyment and passion have been marred by the rather sad state of affairs of the people of this forum.
Sometimes I feel sad for newbies who post very innocent questions in the forum. Instead of guiding them to things the fun way, some old timers here have put in place a system of making them feel rather stupid! Ya searches are seaches, but you just cannot get the right answer to every and any question through them. Many of these newbies would just drift into oblivion, non the wiser after their foray into the newbies world. Some were also accused of doing things that wise oldtimers do... cloning etc!!! When they were proven innocent, not even a simple sorry was posted to them! I am sure a certain Ms Adams would know more. Arrogance? I do not know!
Continuity is important. We must always provide the young newbies or even old ones, with opportunities to move further. Or are we afraid that these newbies would be experts, leaving you current pros behind? I do not know.
There are also a select group who seems to have their own opinion of what is right or wrong! That's fine! But do you have to impose your ideas or ideals on others? You must always have the last word. Take wind30's current plight with OTs. From the posts of the people in that thread, we can roughly gauge the types I have mentioned above.
I am a member of many online forums, and I have also started one for my own kids in school. The whole idea of the forum has helped my kids a lot in knowledge creation and sharing! I have found that this is the only forum that has people who are just waiting to pounce on newbies and their newbie questions. At the end of the day, the thread becomes ... should I say OT! If you ever go to the SUbaru Club Sg forum, you would notice every newbie greeted with welcomes from many old hands! Even if they were asked to do a search, it would be very politely done!
I really do not know what is going to become of this forum. I am just a passer by who happens to have a very keen interest in an art... which has been with me for like 33 years, since I was like 13! MAybe I am an old man ranting away his senile thoughts... Maybe someone would suggest that I'd be made a moderator. Maybe many would start a flamewar on me! Nothing to get a heart attack with!
Maybe just let the Club be just what it is supposed to be. Create, rekindle, revive, renew and maintain the passion that all of us have in this wonderful art form.
If I had in any way disturbed the emotions and sensitivities of anyone, I do apologise. I have no intentions of any malice. I only want to state how sorry I am feeling over the state of some affairs of this forum. If the moderators feel that I am creating too big a storm, strike me off the list. Life will always move on! Its the quality that's important!
Cheers to all!

you're not wrong, neither are you right. becos wat u've stated is a general scenario. some pple are helpful, other's are arrogant.

some newbies really need to be shot, but some have the right attitude and do their due diligence before asking what they need to.

some pros share alot, some pros speak of themselves better than their work (if any to show at all).

some this some that, how to handle?

i really dun see a need for clubsnap to change in anyway. anyway i've been here 3 years? if i hated it, i wouldn't continue posting/browsnig. it's that simple really.

glad that cs has rekindled your passion, but honestly, i really hope it's not the (only) source of your inspiration. your source should be your kids, your family, and your heart.

When I ask a newbie to search for help on their topics, I'm VERY sure it has been addressed before and it can be found.

I do NOT ask a newbie to search if it doesn't exists.

Addon: When I meant 'addressed before', I'm referring to the CS forums.

Ouch.

I hope the people knows that its them that are involved, and try very hard to restrain themselves from beating themselves up too much.

Life goes on.. hopefully better then yesterday.

Hi D100s, you are still young lah, if you are old then I am ancient history Chill out, life need not be so serious everyday. There are all sort of ppl that make this world and CS interesting and colorful.

CS has actually given me alot in terms of knowledge and getting to know friends as well as experiences on who to avoid or trust etc. It is not always good experiences that one will learn, I find bad experiences teaches more, probably is "more expensive or painful" to learn. Hence IMHO opinion we do need some irritants, baddies or even clones?? to color up our community and life.

As for the bunch of OT King and gang, get to know them they can be quite a fun lot who have their weird idiosyncrasies, that many love to hate. Let them be what they are, after all we too, do have our own weird behavior. I am sure we also have our equal share of friends and foes

And as Jon (Joho) has put it "i really hope it's not the (only) source of your inspiration. your source should be your kids, your family, and your heart"

Anyway are you free this Sat? Drop by here http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=185716 as my special guest, though there is a super long reserved waiting list, there is always an exception to be the No 31. Just bring $10. (I know there will be protest of unfairness etc etc but being a speaker I think I can have this very small privilege to invite a fellow old uncle )

Cheers

PS - What is mentioned here is my opinion and not necessary that of CS Official etc etc

Funny to see that those who don't contribute much find it such a bother. Heh. All lurkers and yet still can complain so much. I'm really amazed.

Heh... wonders never cease

My family has always been my source of pure inspiration... That's why I spend most of my time taking pictures of them!
Maybe you need to contribute more to allow yourself to be heard. Complaining? I do not think so! I am just stating an observation. Malice or intent... just observations. If I am wrong, then maybe I'm wrong! I guess its time to just move on that these elements, no matter how they can be, make CS what it is. While we can accept that, the other side must accept that observations can be made!

PE... Old at age, young at heart... got 9 month old baby to testify to that! I still owe a meetup with you for the backgrounds! I must do something about my schedule!!!

Cheers...
