Hi, I'm a newbie who has recently invested in a 350D. Would like to purchase a bag (Crumpler?) as I intend to bring it along with me for when I travel. Just wondering what bags do you use to house your 350D? Would be brilliant too if you could let me know the price too. The intended bag should have space to house my 350D plus extra set of lens. Thanks!

www.cambags.com has many reviews of bags according to bag type and equipment type. Hope this is useful to you.

Just came back from a free and easy trip. I used my Crumpler 7 million. Carried 350D+Grip, Sigma 18-50 F/2.8, Sigma 70-300 F/4-5.6 and 580Ex Speedlite. I carried the bag for a whole day and it does get tiring on your shoulders. Also, not much space to put shopping stuff. I think I would change the stock shoulder pad for something with more padding
So, do consider what kind of travelling you do. If mainly tours, where you have transport most of the time, it should be ok. But if you travel free and easy, with lots of walking involved, I suggest looking for a backpack, Maybe even those with a compartment for putting shopping items |

I have a bag from one of those camera brands which looks rather squarish and uncomfortable to sling over my shoulder. Am looking for a Crumpler bag which can house my 350D w/17-40, another lens and the flash. There should be room for another lens if I intend to buy later and other accessories. Which one suits my needs - 6 or 7 million dollar bag? I don't want something that look too big.

If backpack, maybe Lowepro Mini Trekker AW ($124). Has space on the outside for a tripod if you intend to carry one.

For normal use, crumpler 7 million home is excellent. Depending on your gear that is.
Do bear in mind that it's quite big (can easily hold one body w/ lens attached, 3 other medium zooms and flash and other bits and bobs. For travelling, I'd recommend a back pack (+ a toploader - if you want - more convenient and a quick way to protect your camera from the elements). Nice load distribution and gives you more options to carry other things. If you don't plan to bring a lot of gear when you travel (you typically won't), you can get the Urban one from sports connection (hopefully they're still selling it). Cheap and good. $34 only! Have brought it on 2 week long trips to China and it's still like new (even the damned cheap plastic smell of the interior is still there! Haha!) It's an exact copy of the crumpler formal lounge. Holds a 15" notebook (can use to store other things like maps, papers, magazines if you don't bring a notebook), some space for shopping or a sweater and holds your 350D w/ medium zoom attached and have space for one more lens and flash or 2 more lenses (the flash can go into the main compartment). A couple of large pockets to put in spare batt etc. I have comfortable put in 2 bodies (350D and a film body), a 24-105 f/4, a Sigma 10-20 and a 50mm f1.8 and blower in the camera compartment, flash went into the main compartment (w/ a sweater). Still managed to have space there to put my camera in - a little squeeze, but hey, sweaters are compressable and provide great padding - when I wanted to store the camera away quick and didn't want to open the bottom compartment. |

Oh yah... the only minus of the Urban bag is that there's no space to hang your tripod, so if you're bringing one, it's got to be carried seperately (sling, in a tripod bag or hand).
Then again, this is true for most, if not all Crumpler camera bags and sling/shoulder bags as well. |

Wow, many thanks for your helpful suggestions
. Actually I think backpack may be better for the shoulders but I have a not so good experience as my backpack was nearly pickpocketed in City Hall mrt station a few years back if not for a gallant passer-by. So slightly hesitant to get a backpack. Will definitely go and take a look again , thanks again to all! |
