anyway can anyone recommend me a canon SLR for beginner?
i can purchase the body alone correct?

if so, which wide angle and telephoto lens would be recommended?

hi

i think if you have the money...get a mid range body like eOS30 then get at least a standard lens like the 50mm f1.8. it's cheap n good....try out n see what u need then u get. no point saying so much cos u never try it out b4. juz dun commit the same mistake by buying a entry body n upgrade agfter a few weeks...it's a total waste of money.

I am not familar with canon SLR but should not differ much from Nikon.

You can buy a SLR body by itself. But if u need to get a cheaper lens, it will be cheaper to get as a bundle. If u see yourself buying better lens, dun get the body with the kit lens. There are generally not as good. Try to swap it with a 50mm prime lens, if possible,

For SLR, wide angle will be 28mm and telephone 200 or 300mm.

A good starting lens will be 50mm lens as there are cheap.

Other impt stuffs to get after the SLR is
tripod, bag, drybox and flash, in no particular order.

If you are new to this, might not be a good idea to get a used one.. You might not know what to check on a use body.

However, this problem can be overcome if u get it from a friend/relative or from a shop w/ good reputation. A friend who have knowledge could help u to buy from a stranger too.

Camera body is just a box that hold the film.. The lens made the picture..

A lot of people said that lens is more impt that body.

A lousy body + a good lens will make better pic than a good body+lousy lens.

However, the catch is that how lousy is lousy (refering to the body)?

If it is too poor in function, a lot of technique might not be possible with it.

Read up more on the body and decide what function is impt to you. A few feature to look out for are DOF preview, max/min shutter speed, flash sync and metering. Might be good to get a body with metal mount as they will last longer.

Most impt, how much is your budget?
