I owned 1 for 1 yr+.
As an upgrade from my Canon Powershot S50 camera. Almost similar manual options & creative functions but the 300D has interchangeable lenses.... and the world is your oyster. Still learning how to work on all of it's functions. Guess I am 30% there.... My only peeve is the write buffer. If shot on continous, it can only handle 4 hi-res images and then the camera will take it's time to write to the mem card. During this brief moment, you cannot take any more photos.... and my fav sunbird would have flown away. This flaw seems to have been taken care of with the newer 350D. |

Well, you don't need a very fast shutter speed as the flash will freeze the action.

If you are using this for birding, you might need AI servo.
Dont forget the big investment in long lenses. The 350D has better noise ctrl over the 300D.And it has AI servo.CFn.Metering selection. |

Admittedly it has some flaws, like relatively small buffer size.. Sometimes the cam refuses to fire if "conditions" are not right.. (read that it's b'coz of low-light focussing issues or something..) But it's a hardy DSLR that's survived my several trips abroad.. (Eygpt/Aust/Africa/Msia/jungle/swamp/sea/drizzle/sweat..) My bro-in-law fell on his 300D once and broke the built-in flash, but the cam carried on shooting.. My cousin shot her 300D while it was snowing, no low-temp problems there.. If you're not too fussy with the somewhat lack of control, a 300D covers most cases, and at 2nd hand prices is a real bargain..

If U're taking nature and animals, the 300D is quite fine.. U should invest the majority of your lens in either WA, macro or tele lens depending on what u intend to shoot.
Your main concerns over the 300D would be whether u need to shoot at high ISO ie above ISO 400 as well as the small buffer size and slow continuous shooting mode and the lack of choice over focusing mode. If these are not a concern,300D would be a ideal candidate and u can put your money in lens. I've been a user for abt 2.5 yrs and i must say it's been a faithful companion all the way. has nv given me problems b4 it can endure harsh shooting conditions considering it sports a plastic body. just have to work around it's limitations and u're on your way to DSLR nirvana! |

Since you are so sure that you are into nature photography you will then have to decide what kind of anture photogrpahy you are intrested in. Theres landscape/scenery , insect /macro and general wildlife. Most of these areas are served best with thier own kind of lenses so make sure you are certian before buying ![]() |
