Default needle

First time using an ext. flash. Enjoy and C&C pls. (esp. on the use of flash; really know nuts about using it.)

A very nice image! Artistic and I like it. How did you do the BG?

Critique wise, the needle looks dark and black. If it looks shiny like how it normally appears to us, maybe better? I suppose the dark is the reflection of the setup, so if some alu foil is placed infront of it, maybe the needle can capture the silvery reflection. Any way, its just an idea....not sure if it will work.

Sorry, what do you mean by this? don't really understand. Haha.. the BG is actually just a pants. it was lying around me and i grabbed it for the needle to poke for it to stand. At the high mag, the mainly yellow pants became a blur.

he means that the needle is too dark and that since the needle is a reflective surface,
you can try placing something white in front of the needle so that the needle will be brighter.

Ya. i get that part. What i don't get is this phrase "dark is the reflection of the setup".

What I mean that I was supposing that your room (i.e. setup) was the surrounding and the dark room is seen in the reflection on the needle. Hope it is clearer.

oh. ok ok. I think i get it now. But no, my room was bright. Could it be because of the position of the flash?

Or maybe your dark lens is too close to the needle?

I macro, light fall off is very fast. Sometimes, the BG of the insect may look bright, but after taking the shot, it appears black. So the room may have the lights on, but when the shot is taken, its still not sufficient to be seen.

Sharp and interesting shot of something we take for granted in everyday life.
Just wonder how the pic would have look if a red thread was used instead
Will the colour combo give another interesting touch to the pic???
