I'm going to shoot a sports event on Saturday using my E-330. I've never shoot something like that before, let alone with this rather new camera of mine... the event is a gymastic competition in a sports hall i believe... the worst is i dun have my camera till Friday...
Worried that i may not be able to get any decent shots... can i ask you guys if there is anything that i need to take note? Most likely i only have my Sigma 18-125mm with my camera body. I wonder if i have enough range? (i dun have an idea of the place even. )I wonder if the lens is fast enough... is the camera fast enough to film the contestant 'Tiao Ma'? Running up to the obstacle & jumping over it & landing elegantly... ![]() |

Wow...this is a tough one and I'm not sure how far are you away from the subject for your lens to reach comfortably ?
You definitely need a flash to freeze the fast moving motion and to use manual focus to prefocus cos I don't think E330 focusing speed is fast enough to cope. Use a higher ISO helps too. cheers! |

Gee... nervous sia...
I suspect the place is like 1 basketball court size... of course phtographer only at the edge i think. I heard from organiser No flash allowed... I think the place will be bright, since it's a sports event. I hope using my Sandisk Extreme III helps in taking faster continous burst shots? I read from dpreview... "Recommended sensitivity ISO 100 - 400, images at ISO 800 usable, ISO 1600 not really" ![]() |

it could be tough getting the shots you want as the lens is slow and the sports will be done indoors (probably get lots of motion blur). no harm trying if you're shooting for fun though. but if you are shooting as the official photographer, I'll suggest that you ask the organiser to get someone else who's experienced (no offence).
if I were to shoot, I'll bring along one or two fast primes. Last edited by mpenza; 18th April 2006 at 06:20 PM. |

If you are running out of time to learn the camera, use the Program Mode - Sports.
Set ISO to 400/800. Use faster lens if possible. If you are too far away, say more than 15m, I would say, flash doen't help. Well, I think higher ISO will help to freeze motion, but doens't no improve focusing speed. It also depends on the kind of sports you want to take. Some motion blur is appropriate though. Happy shooting. |
