Default Fungus in my lense

Hi,
I found there is minor fungus in my lense. I have sent to canon for repair and get back my lense recently. I found that the fungus still stick inside my lense. No service at all.
According to canon's customer service officer, they have clean the lense for me..but how come the fungus still there .
Anyone can assist me? Will the fungus grow and till the end my lense have to throw to dustbin? No time to go back Canon. Pls advise

Most likely, the fungus have attacked and "eat" into your lense coating.
So there are still markings left behind.

Does the fungus affect your images? If it is really minor, then live with it and make sure you keep it in a very dry environment when not using and the fungus spread will be slow - that way you can keep using for a longer time.

If it affects images, then you have to change glass elements. What lens is it? Cheap lenses no point doing anything.

Hi,
Just bought this lense last year Aug 2005. 28-135 USM with IS. Consider good lense? So far the fungus does not affect the image.

Had the same experience once, send it down to TCW, person there said, " ya ...will clean for u...", got back after paying $85...'fungus' still there, asked the person, " How come?"...he replied..." ..oh, its bubble...cannot do anything about it..." Well if ur tiny fungus do not have legs like spider....but more like some cells...prob - bubble.....

28-135 IS not that cheap so worth changing elements for if you are fussy. Usually 1 or 2 specks do not affect image - it is when the fungus spreads into a web then you are in trouble.

There is a way to prevent fungus from getting in right?
Putting it in a dry cabinet will prevent it from growing isn't it?

does this work?
and why do you need the aluminium foil when you already have a lens cap?
cant you just put the lens cap on?

Sunning lens may not be that a good idea at times as prolong heating (exposure to the sun) may eventualy cause vaporization of grease within the lens body...so if non proper cool off period is taken into account, the coolest surface - i.e the lens may be where condensation of the vaporised grease would take placeh....ending up in fogged lens...

The lens sounds pretty new...I thought it takes quite a long time before fungus actually etches a lens. Consider taking the lens down to Cam.X for a second opinion and a quote if Nick believes it can be fixed. Recently he sent a couple of my old lenses down to his technician for cleaning and the job was very well-done.

the fungus is look like a dust. But is a 2 dusts stick together. When I sent to Canon, the customer service officer said : " yes.....got fungus." I said :" I just bought it last few month, why so fast kena fungus? Any warranty?" She said :" No warranty if your lense got fungus"

Yes, it's just opposite Peninsula Plaza where the popular Cathay Photo is. Hope that you will find a solution. Actually it's even more surprising now that I've read your later posts. So you only had the lens for a few months and it already had supposed 'fungus'? What shop did you buy the lens from? How did you store your lens during those few months?

Technically, fungus can spread from one lens to another. This is how your lens got infected also...we are assuming that it spread from some other object onto your lens by spores. The very act of using a lens exposes it to spores, but keeping the lens in cool, dry areas with a little bit of light (such as in a clear dry box with silica gel or a electronic dry cabinet with a clear glass front) slows the growth of fungus. There's plenty more spores in the air than might otherwise be produced from a fungused lens. In short, I think the storage conditions matter more than how closely the lenses are kept.
