Sheet Film Loading Question

Hi guys,

Got a LF newbie question to ask. If I want to load only 2 of my 10 pieces of 4x5 film into my holder, after I open the box can I simply put the remaining 8 back into the envelope & box then chuck it back in the fridge?

Is there a proper procedure for this coz all the literature I read only tell me how to load the film not what to do with the extras.

Yes, put balance back into the package
into the 3 layer light proof box
seal in ziplock bag
and chuck back into fridge

do not forget to let warm to room temp
before you open the ziplock bag
next time you take out to load.

I am not sure if it is necessary to put the opened box back into the fridge, unless of course the next time you use it is like 20 years down the road.

I have opened boxes of film left in ordinary aircond room. And after four months (was trying out other films) the films are still perfectly OK.

hey guys, managed to load them without much problems, just the dark bag I use get's a bit cramped.

Anyway here are some scans of what I shot (I need a better scanner!!)





A little under coz I forgot didn't compensate enough for the bellows extension factor..

You may want to try putting a cardboard box that can fit inside your dark bag ( assuming that your dark bag is the big one ). That's what I did, put the film sheet holder and film into the box ( which have the top opening flap cut off ) and put it inside the dark bag with the box opening facing the dark bag arms opening. You'll have a lot more space to work with.

Yeah that was exactly what I was thinking of! Even when loading my B&W 120 film into the reel also got same problem when the dark bag gets in the way...

Why do you need to load 120 film in the dark bag? I usually do it in the open, just not under direct sunlight whenever I can help it.

load it into the developing reel bro.. after the film has been exposed... not load into the holder.. haha
