Was testing my camera earlier when suddenly I see "err cf" on the display and camera freezes.. Swapped to another CF card and everything goes back to normal.. Anybody else had their Transcend CF card die on them? I tried formatting it on my 30D, even 350D and PC.. All cannot, all show error, unable to format
Now the problem is, I bought this CF card along with a whole lot of other things at the recent IT Show, I must have accidentally thrown the receipt away because I cannot find it in my whole stack of receipts I kept from the stuff I bought from IT Show.. Where is the service centre for Transcend anyway, and has anybody tried going down to do a replacement without the receipt successfully? Last edited by jeryltan; 13th April 2006 at 08:27 PM. |

Sad to hear that bro..
This seems to be the nth CF card died issue i've heard of around.. seems like they die more often than microdrives. Hope you can get it fixed. 4GB cards are definitely less than 5 years old, so I doubt you have any problems with getting warranty. |

I've never had a CF card die on me before.. I was using Lexars and Kingstons previously.. This my 1st time also.. Was tempted by the cheap prices at IT Show.. Crap, should've stuck to Kingston
BTW.. Any idea where to go to get it changed? I've no idea 'cos lost the receipt..

Have you tried formatting it on your computer and then try again?

You were just 1 step faster than me before I edited my original post.. I've tried formatting it on 2 cameras and even my PC.. Still cannot..

Actually, my concern not so much about the warranty period.. But more so about how I am going to prove to them that I bought it in Singapore?
Anybody got a receipt for Transcend 4GB 120x CF card to "lend" me?

Did you try both FAT and FAT32?

I can't format using FAT.. Doesn't have that option, because the detected size is 3.38GB.. I think 1 or 2 of the chips inside konked out.. Shouldn't it show something closer to 4GB?

Crap.. Seems Transcend is not reliable.. Even if I did a swap, I would be very wary of using them.. Probably throw away and just get myself another Kingston instead.. Take it as a lesson learnt
The guy mentioned he managed to get a refund.. But I no receipt, want refund also cannot.. Sianz..

this is a good example why most ppl use 4x1GB instead of 1x4GB...
very risky if the card dies on you when you are shooting somethng important. |

Stuff like this can happen to any card. A very similar problem occured to my 2gb lexar 80x CF only a few days after I got it from the CS MO way back then. But Convergent (the distributor) did a 1-1 exchange for me, no questions asked (din even need to show the receipt). So i guess it's up to the luck of the draw sometimes. Even established brands/products can suffer from lemons.

Well hopefully Memory World does an exchange for me even though I don't have the receipt.. But from the DPReview thread, seems a lot of pple facing problems with Transcend leh.. Anyway in the future, I will stick to Kingston, have been serving me well and never failed on me before.. Imagine going on tour and all my photos wiped out
