17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro or AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] Macro

I'm using Canon 30D and new to DSLR. Would like some advise from seasoned users on these 2 lens. Which will be a better buy? Thanks in advance for the help

Both of these lenses are flexible in their own ways. I would personally get the 17-70 because I am really really impressed by the 1:2.3 macro ability throughout the focal range. This, to me, is something that isn't available in any other lens and therefore special. If you prefer to have a wider zoom range then of course the 18-200 would be the way to go.

I suggest you get the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 very sharp, and best of all $650 new. constant f2.8 thoughout the zoom range. Of coures if you want a wider range at the expense of quality get the Sigma 18-200.

I believe the 17-70mm is a better buy albeit a shorter range on the tele end. Here's two reviews to help you . Try reading other reviews and try your hand on both copies, if possible, before u make a decision.
