I think the revenue draw would be as much or more than the Chingay and GSS combined.
Belgian is Spa. Hockenheim and Nurburgring are in Germany and both are still F1 venues. Imola and Monza are also in Italy, both also F1 venues for 06 season. Quite close to each other.

F1 will go wherever the money is. Doesn't matter how near it is to any existing race venues.

The Grand Prix in the 60s and 70s was never held in Bukit Timah area. It was in the Old Upper Thomson Rd circuit. As far as I know, there was never any other race held in Singapore.

but the street circuit bid will be very interesting. not many cities can host a street circuit race. if this goes thru, this will be the 2nd street circuit on the F1 calendar and 1st in Asia.
there are already 2 street circuits: monaco and melbourne

actually montreal is also one, if you consider that a public bus drives around the circuit every day when the grand prix circus is not in town

Monaco is really a city street racing curcuit.

Melbourne's curcuit is actually being place in a park which is not in the city.

Singapore......NO WAY it can place any F1 cars in the city. Singapore is just not built for it. Forget about it........it will take at least another 24-36 moons to have a racing curcuit in Singapore.

why would u say no way for SG streets?
Monaco streets isnt much better. In fact, there's tht infamous "hump" that all drivers hv to drive around on one of the straights in Monaco.

anyway, melbourne is not actually a street circuit. it's just a make-shift kinda circuit tht uses normal road as part of it.

Boy oh boy, if Singapore really gets to host a city circuit F1 race, won't it be exciting!
But then...think of the traffic jams due to road closure...bleah.

Must be held over the weekends when the roads are not so crowded.

If streets need to be closed then it will only be for about 4 days. Thursday and Friday for practise, Saturday for qualifying and the race proper on Sunday.
I don't think it will be around the Shenton Way area, too much commercial activities and $$$ will be lost. Perhaps a good bet will be around the Marina Square, Marina South and Suntec areas.
Unknown to us, maybe a F-1 clause has been added into the IR applications for the last 4 bidders.

My feel is that we should go for a street circuit. Agree with Inimatad that Marina Bay area is ideal. Excellent showcase to the world with the skyscrapers behind and the smooth Bay.. Max Mosley may have said that there's only one Monaco... but we can be the next closest Hope this time our garmen don't chicken-out again like in the past.. F1 is an event that command highest rating after the Olympics and World Cup... it happens EVERY year and not every 4 years. You do not need to build plenty of venues and the disruption is only over 4 to 5 days. If Monaco can do it i don't see why we can't..

Monaco is a rich man's paradise.. There are rows of designer labels outlets everywhere and the circuit even run pass a casino. The place oozes $$$$ at every turn but instead of stifling it, Monaco prospers everytime the F1 circus hits town. No reason why this can't happen here in Singapore. If Bernie Ecelestone desires Singapore to have F1, it shows that there is money to be made

To those who say Singapore can't have a street circuit.. Our roads here are much wider than Monaco's.. Loews hairpin is the TIGHTEST corner in Formula One. If you have been to Melbourne's Albert Park circuit, you couldn't even imagine that that narrow park road could host cars racing at 250 kph !!!

Bernie only got eyes for $$$ la. Show him the $$$ you can even have F1 at your backyard! Max another kuku bird, Bernie's partner in crime.

Some sports' governing bodies really screw up. Snooker is another one.

I didn't know that... When 'Klose' said, it can run pass Padang, i was thinking is the road big enough? I didn't know Monaco got even smaller roads than Spore.
From Pentax to 4/3, back to Pentax and then back to M4/3 !?!?

But whatever it is.. these two has made F1 into what it is today... much sought after by countries waiting to host and making loads of money for everybody.
Fortunately the uncertainty over the end of the Concorde Agreement has seems to recede. Formula One will continue to grow and prosper now that they are setting their sights into new markets in Asia.
