FWIW, I came across a neat Sony-made card reader at Chamoxa (6th floor SLS) for $20. Takes all memory cards including xD. If anyone is looking for one, this is an especially nice one.
The included removable cable terminates in a four-pin connector that goes to your mainboard USB header. What's nice about the cable is that the other end is a ubiquitous USB connector like that which comes with most consumer digital cameras. The cable is a removable one. What this means is that if you are using an add-on USB PCI card which usually has an internal standard USB socket (not a header), you can substitute with a 'standard' digicam USB cable for the internal connection. The batch I saw has a 2006 date of manufacture and is high-speed USB 2.0. They stack it next to the cashier. Again, FWIW, Chamoxa also has very cheap "Gaming Bomb" looking cases (imitations) with a 120mm fan port (that can also accept smaller fans) in the rear for only $28. For $28, it even comes with an air duct that channels air straight to your CPU fan. This must be the cheapest ducted case I have come across. The chassis is made of thin steel, side panels a little flexible, but is reasonably rigid on the whole. Hard to complain for $28 (no fans, no PSU). I bought one in girly lime-green on white to house an old Intel board and CPU. Last edited by kahheng; 9th April 2006 at 12:22 AM. |
