Give NSC a ring and let them know the sand in the type of glass should be able to give u a quote, I think. Price will be the same as standard cleaning/servicing varies with the type of glass.

After the cleaning and servicing, you lens may not be "virgin" any more - I mean the alignment and setting might be out a little, especially for most zooms that has got 15 elements or so.

just my personal speculation...is it possible one of the elements is loosen and 'grinding' is but the edge of that glass rolling against the inner lining of the barrel casing..

If it is in a dersert, can understand how fine sand can get into the lens.

camera not affected. amazing huh!

we didnt exactly experienced a sand storm, just a few short occasions where we have to counter slight wind with sand. hahahaas..

lens front element good still nice. ahaha... lens condition still nice thou... but after servicing, i am considering to sell it below the price that i bought it.. (durh!) anyway when the lens was released i bought it at $550...
