it depends alot on what u would like to shoot really.
70-200 + 2x gives u a 400mm f/5.6 which means more light loss at the TC. u might not suffer image degradation since its from a Nikon. and if u want range and still considerable speed, 1.4x would be better. both 2x and 1.4x will allow u to retain ur AF too. my recommendations if for range, 2x if for speed, and in need of range, 1.4x den crop it later.

I have the 2.0X converter and I don't like it. Fully extended it is soft and poor. I should not have got greedy when I purchased and bought a 1.4 or 1.7

2x image gets degraded slightly. & F stop goes down to F5.6 on a F2.8 lens. thus it is not to our advantage in low light conditions. |

like in poor light.. AF starts hunting and stuffs.. usually when the AF starts hunting, usually high risk of getting OOF pics too. but i have seen the 2Xtc performance under good lightings... but i would recomment the 1.4x or 1.7x. think throughly on whether u need the 2x or not...

Forget about TC... get a longer lens..... with TC on, at relatively low light condition, your lens will hunting and it will be slower....
