Do you guys happen to know how much does it cost to repair and recalibrate a broken canon lens?
Broken as in - the 70-200L 2.8 body seperated into 2 halves exposing the wiring and metal o rings, usm motor and stuff like that. glass all intact. middle barren cracked up but replacing it shouldnt be a problem if there are parts. do you know if canon would repair such equipment? thanks ahead for your valuable input. |

Omg.
Sounds quite bad dude. Is the motor and stuff damaged? Glass scratched? Best is send it to Canon Singapore Service Centre for damage assessment. Probably run into few hundreds, if not more. Be mentally prepared. |

Seems like it's taken a rather bad impact.

Is the glass or the USM motor broken?
The USM motor would probably cost you around S$100~S$120 and service charge would be around S$160-S$180. If the glass is scratched or cracked, might as well a new one. Hope that helps. Cheers Hazmee |

Haagen Daaz,
You are with the lens back in USA, right? If you need to, I'll scour for you the location of the nearest CPS servicing center for you. |

The USM motor should set you back about 400$, at least that's what it cost me to replace a HSM motor the last time i busted one. the barrel should be about 300-500 to replace completely. I would really suggest getting another one cos sometimes, even after you repair it, there are problems.

i've had quotes over here in the uk for about 400 pounds for a USM change. If you're thinking of picking one off ebay/net to fix, i think its a better idea to buy a new one. If it is indeed your lens, i hope its covered under insurance. Mine is all under my housing and covers damage from accidents as well..
