Default Quick Way to Copy Folders from one HDD to another

I'm trying to copy a mass of folders and nested subfolders from one HDD to another - however, when I try to copy, I noticed that the folder creation date (in the column "date modified) on the new HDD is today's date.

Is there a quick way to copy and ensure that the folders retain their original dates? I can use software to amend the date one by one, but it is really tedious and there are hundreds of folders involved.

    Thanks in advance.

Backup and restore. This will keep the original date and time.

Hmm which program should I use to backup and restore to preserve this folder date thing? I'm assuming you mean backup from old drive and restore to new drive.

I've just tried Windows Backup - upon backing up and restoring to the 2nd HDD, the folder date becomes today's date. Doesn't seem to work.

It should not be. Check your setting. I have been using that for sometime.

Are you using Windows XP? Where are you backing up your file to?
When doing restore, select "Alternate location" & "Always replace the file on my computer".
I have just tried a backup and restore and it works fine.

There are serveral software that can do the job eg. WinRAR & Ghost as suggested but these are license software.
Best is to use what is installed and free.

Yes Windows XP's native Backup and used the settings you mentioned. Backing up from C: to D:

Did you try with multiple nested folders and subfolders and see if these still retain their original dates?

Anyway I've tried with WINRAR and it works perfectly - thanks to casey for the tip.

If you are doing directory copies randomly and not as part of a regular backup routine you could also try Total Commander. With the "copy date/time" option chosen the copy of the directory and all sub-directories will be as per the original. It is a really good file handler with a huge amount of features. Shareware, but only has a nag screen and no expiry.
