Hi, what do you mean by "chaotic"?

I went there last year end Nov and it wasn't chaotic, instead, the people behaved more orderly than Singaporeans especially while waiting for MRT trains. There are really lots to see / shop and definitely good food around. Hope you enjoy the trip!

Just return this afternoon after staying for two week - cannot extend due to air tocket expire. Intend to visit again next month. Cheap if you know where to eat and local transport. Went there for shooting and motor-show. Visit the first day - only for pree and dealer, not crowd easily to take photo. Model pose properly for photo.
    Safe to go, bring $$$.

one of my favourite place to visit. for leisure (clean ones) and shopping. went there last week for a business trip and it sure looks normal. crowds are gathered but in a peaceful manner. no worries about security there, to make things better they even have security guards at their MRT (BTS) on each track and each entrance/ exit.

bringing more cash there like some had eariler advised is not a good ideal as pickpockets are nothing unsual. just bring a credit and a ATM card (cirrus enabled) if u wish to draw some cash just incase u lose the credit. anyway about 3/4 there shops accepts only cash.

I'm impressed that,at their BTS, they are really more orderly at evening peak hours than Spore mrt crowd.

And along the streets, there are more policemen than traffic lights .
Every shopping mall have their own security guards, felt safer than shopping at Orchard road.

This is what I saw outside my hotel ground level lobby on a Sunday in 2004. Fri and sat the sign board wasn't there.

Actually during my trip, I stash away some cash, apart from keeping cash in wallet. Remind me of during NS time.Overseas training exercise in Taiwan, was told by instructors not allowed to carry cash during the Navex, so all of us, stash away some $$. In all possible places that we can think of Inside rifle buffer spring, inside signal set battery compartment, inside SBO secret compartment etc..

Anyway is the Chatuchak market still in operation ? read somewhere that the piece of land that CTC stood on, belongs to the BTS company and they wanted to raise the rental. Of course the vendors opposed. And if there is no compromise, the market will have to shut down, or move elsewhere.

Wow, that means I need not worry so much about theft? Bring obvious camera bags also ok as long as I don't stupidly walk away from it?

Bangkok, juz love that place. Street and hawker food....yummy...There is a great seafood place at Sukhumvit...one of the Soi..but can't remember which one. Like u shop for your seafood and then get them prepared to your fancy. And for authentic Thai food....try Baan Kunitha, can be abit pricy but worth it. For more shopping, try the malls outside BKK like Fashion Island...mostly locals shop there. Lots of local delights (deserts) at the basement....Will be there next Friday...Khap Khun Khap

Of course, do not make yourself a obvious target like keeping a thick fat wallet. The normal alertness when overseas should apply.

For me, i wear a waist pouch in front of me.And keep my cash in my berms pockets. So that I need not always reach for my wallet / takes out a thick stack of cash when i wan to pay for something .

Do be careful of people bumping into you and using penknife to slash ur bags/pouch etc.

Its a nice place, with really nice people, shopping heaven and food paradise .

It should be really quite safe, as long as you take safety precautions.
Do not travel on your own and shop around the dark alleys of course. Generally the transport there is really good - with the mrt-like systems, so getting around is easy. If you dare to ask around, I'll even suggest taking a bus.. MUCH CHEAPER than tuk tuk or taxi.

Keep your belongings (esp money) in different places... some in waist pouch, some in wallet, some in bag, and some in a pouch under ur clothes.

Just in case anything really happens, at least u dun lose all ur stuff. Also.. remember to keep photocopies of your passport at a convenient place. this is very important

    Hi All,

I think the post was referring to the receent Thaksin case..... Well i have called my friends in BKK and they are saying that the protests have died down... but on the safe side do not reveal that you are singaporean to anyone... especially the customs officers.... otherwise Bkk is a great place to go to. I have business dealiings there and have to go there once a month, the peak of the troubles was end march 06 that was the worst... but now should be ok.

    Regards
    David Ong
