sure, most of the time when you're shooting events like this, not all the images will turn out sharp. Shooting with large f. , subject moving, cannot set up tripot, etc.... the trick is to focus and refocus at every given chance before shooting off the frame. Another "trick" is to post only the super sharp images

Or use the continuous focusing mode if your camera has it.

I would not use con't focus mode during events as you have to keep the subject in your focus spot, meaning you can't recompose your shot and if they raise their hand to your focus spot ( supposeing the focus spot is in the ctr ) than you get another shot with hands sharp and face blur. Use focus lock? that will means the need to keep refocusing again.

Hmm you are right. For events like this continuous might not be such a good idea. I had fashion shows in mind where you need continous tracking as the model walks towards you.

I usually use pre focus for fashion show. Before the show start, per-focus, switch to manual focus, shoot one frame, enlarge on preview, sharp?, than all the wayyyyyyy. need to shoot somewhere else? Either use manual focus or switch back to auto. Hope this helps

Very, very well said, yqt, from a very experience event shooter. I get images that are very sharp at 100%, others that are sharp enough for general viewing. Monopod helps, faster shutter speed helps and higher ISO too. And not forgetting lots of practice.
