Hi guys,
I have a couple of questions. I hope you don't mind. 1) Do you know where I can buy cheap (preferably less than $100) but good quality lenses for my Canon EOS 650 film SLR? Any place where I can haggle and are known for honest sellers, very much preferred. I'm a foreigner so I'm not much familiar to the whole photography scene in Singapore. 2) How much, on average does second-hand Canon lenses cost? I intend to buy a 28-200 mm Zoom Lens and a fish eye lens. 3) Any place where I can get my shutterblades cleaned? It has grease already and is beginning to leave marks on my pictures. I asked Canon's service centre, they're quoting me $120. You guys think it's good enough? Any other safe and more affordable option? I have to put emphasis on affordability, I'm only a student, so I got limited budget yeah! I'd apreciate your help. Thank you very much! |

I think buying second hand lens will be a good option for you. Do take a look at The Camera Workshop at the Peninsula Hotel. Lots of second hands at affordable prices. Sadly, EOS lens usually costs over $100 unless you're talking abt lower end lens like the 28-90mm or the older 35-80mm...

1) TCW seems to be a good place. Went there once before but didnt buy anything. Look out in clubsnaps B/S forums for good deals. You can find cheap kits and maybe a 50/1.8 if you are lucky for under $100.
2)Normaly ultra zooms tend to be about $200+ second hand. Thers one tamron 28-200 that seems like a good deal. Not sure of its availablr second hand though. No idea about the fish eyes.. 3) I htink for a canon camera you slhoud go back to them..but $120 does sound expensive.. Nice to see more film users ![]() |

The very cheapest fisheye you will find that is of good quality is the zenitar 16mm/2.8. That goes at about 250 2nd hand. 50/1.8 is ok, and is less than 100 2nd hand most of the time.
It's quite simple really, quality doesn't come cheap at all. If quality was cheap, why would people pay so much for L lenses and so forth. If you want cheap quality, I'd recommend you get a canon FD mount system or a Nikon MF system. Now there's some serious quality there at very affordable prices. usually between 100-200 for some really decent glass.
