My sister just bought the Olympus C-5050Z yesterday.
Apparently there are two offers on the markets at the moment- (a) Package A Camera Set (only) = S$1300 John 3:16, AP (b) Package B Camera Set + 5 freebies (tripod, bag, XD reader..) = $1499 CP 1 pros point, metal alloy body, cool! 1 cons point, with the lens adaptor, guess what!, the optical viewfinder is obstructed partly. (similar problem to G3). A point to note, a picture may be sharper if the camera do some auto in-camera sharpening, @ the expense of more noise. For C-5050Z, it's adviceable to adjust the "default" sharpening option to lower, to reduce the noise. May appear to have a slight softer picture. Anyway post-editing is recommended though. To be fair, CA, barral distortion etc.. Come on, the lens are not professional lens, can't expect much! |

to be fairer, lens obstruction for 5050 is not an issue when u add WC or TC since the window is no longer accurate..
but the G3 is another thing altogether... it's like saying I can't run wearing skirts vs I can't run at all. think package A is B but the retailer keeps the gifts.

So far, she's very satisfied with the camera. My sister is not knowledgeable about photography although she's a physics undergrad. There's some CA which I can detect, but she's can't. Even I told her about it, she felt no difference. Apparently it depends on individual. This camera is capable of producing consistently good photos if you don't have the expectations of a professional photographer. For me, I felt that the CA is acceptable, taken into consideration that the lens is not a delicated pro lens. Battery life. Can't compare with Canon's Li-battery. But definitely wothwhile as it uses the long-lasting NiMH batteries. For travel, you sure to appreciate the convenience of getting spare AA power batteries virtually around the world. I'll say, " Go buy it!" ![]() Last edited by MingGuan; 9th December 2002 at 01:38 PM. |

Was seriously thinking of whether getting the Canon G3 or the Olympus C-5050Z overthe whole of last month. Finally decided to take the plunge and bought the latter last Friday.
However, need some help from Olympus forum users, The small white booklet-manual mentioned about the reference manual in CD-ROM for more detail writeups on the camera's function. But the camera CD package only come with a single CD with the Camd master Ver4 software, USB drivers and adob reader. Do you have the reference manual in CD-ROM format bundled with your package? Thanks in advance. ============================== Love my Olympus C-5050Z and Canon G2. ============================== |

The 260++ pages reference manual is in the CD. There should be a Camedia Master 4.0 Pro s/w.

Both the CD contain the reference manual. The CD in the startup kit box contain the Camedia Master Pro 4.0
