Pentax istDL @ $960

I checked today and the price of a brand new kit set is $960, including the 1GB card and all standard free stuff, so no matter how I try to figure, I cannot understand why there are people on buy-sell trying to sell it either at this price or higher

I am on the lookout for a second hand set, maybe a few months old and hoping to pay $600-$700 for it depending on the condition but the asking prices by sellers are unbelievable...even sellers of 350D quote $100-$200 lower than their buying price...

MS Color quoted $980 but you have to order and wait for it.
AP is selling it at $962 and I think they have stocks.

Here is a better deal although i suspect they are grey inports.
this shop in Excelcior (TCW or something like that) has 2 sets of istDS for sale. They quoted me around $999 too. I think these were being sold at $1299 at the IT show.

btw, if your friend is selling his set, why not simply buy from him instead? that way you get to try it out before deciding...

IT Show they dun sell the DS they only sell the DL($999) & DL2($1299).

yes...I know but I do think the DS is more expensive, so buying it at $900+ should be a bargain, assuming the warranty is good and they really are brand new sets.

Well, if you get DS for less than 1k for a brand new set, that is almost 35% lesser than when i first got the camera.. which was at a IT show is Singapore EXPO back in 2004 December.. but never regret as i start my photography lesson from there on..

Bargain liao lah, my 9 mth old set i still manage to sell for $1100+ leh.

they told me with lens...I did not ask further as intially I thought it was the DL and AP is cheaper. but the other night, after a late dinner, I popped by with friends and saw it was the DS but the shop closed liao...

The DS at TCW is a used set and was quoted $1.2k for it with the kit lens and no accesories thro the phone. Who knows going down there in person will be cheaper but DL seems to be the way to go now for budget DSLR.

I was asking myself this question in the morning when I found out that the D50 can be had below 1.2k

read some reviews and it all seems favourable. However reviews being reviews, there's only so much info that is usable and does it all really matters...

Important features for me is that the rear curtain sync is not flash dependant and the AF seems to be much faster.

Old lens compatibility might be an issue but Pentax old lens nomenclature seems equally confusing even though it all fits!! More people are trading Nikon lenses compared to Pentax but Canon seems to be king in the BS forum. So maybe more option for used lens.

MAX ISO is 1600 for Nikon while for Pentax is 3200. How often do we use that?

I wonder about the quality of the Nikon kit lens vs Pentax kit lens and also the viewfinder size.

Pentax body is certainly smaller and I like them small.

Decisions decisions... I just need to find money first.

thought they are used set too..one DS with kit lens, the other DS with takumar 55mm lens..
