Ballheads are better if you want to frame your pictures fast. Pan and tilt heads are better for accuracy and geared heads are better for precision.

I used a Gitzo 1126 light weight tripod before. Bought it 2nd hand for $250.

Top brand, really nice build. Considered light weight at 1.36kg.

But sold it out to fund my lens, and it might not support my 70-200 anyway.

Also used my friend's monopod before when shooting events, but it's way too toublesome as i need to change position all the time. So I'd rather hand carry...

For now I just need something simple. Like a bean bag?

Btw, revopit, you might be interested to know that CP has a offer on the Slik Pro400Dx for $155. It comes with a free monopod and tripod strap. I didn't quite like it cos it was too heavy for my liking.

Does anyone know of any place else where there's a good selection of tripods on display? I like to "see & touch" before buying. So far, I've been to CP marina but they seem to only have the really expensive models.
anybody knows if this offer is still available?

Any good recommendation of tripod(Slik or Manfrotto) preferably around $100. 2nd hand also can, to hold around 3-5kg of load and most importantly must be light-weighted as I will be carrying it around frequently..

I have this tripod but I find that it's on the heavy side, also the locking nut at the leg section really bite into my hand. Been thinking of getting a Manfrotto MGF 3 series, unfortunately Manfrotto has no agent here. Thought of getting a Gitzo series 1 or 2 but very expensive.

You mean its very heavy to carry around? So which tripod will u recommend for a D50 with 18-70mm lens?
My budget is less than $150..

For your case with your budget of $150, no choice lor... have to bear with the weight. But the Slik 300DX is quite stable, just that when you carry it around for the whole day you will find that it's on the heavy side.

Always will be tradeoff. With your budget, it's impossible to get light and stable tripod. So the next best thing is heavy and cheap tripod which is stable.
