If you want to paste back at the same spot, why not Duplicate Layer instead of Cut?

![]() The only workaround i can think of now is: 1. Select the object to copy (eg. with Marquee tools) 2. Right click and chose "Layer via Copy", a new layer with ur copied selection will appear. 3. Move this new layer above the layer you want to paste it into. 4. Select the 2 layers and merge. Well, you can always stop at step 3, since it will effectively have the same result as step 4, except that you have a chance to removing the paste later. Hope this helps. |

However, if you still have the selection of the CUT on, you can paste it back the same location by pressing shift+ctrl+V, delect layer mask if you want to. Another way is: select the area you want to cut, hit ctrl J, it will copy the selection into a new layer at the same loaction, as long you don't move it, when you want to paste it back the same location, just hit crlt E to merge the top layer to the layer below it. |

1. Select object that you want to copy. 2. Press Ctrl+J (for window) or Apple+J (for Mac) It will copy the object to the new layer exactly the same location. ![]() No need CS3 la... Last edited by Konthai; 21st March 2006 at 03:20 PM. |

Yes IF the dimensions of both files are exactly the same. You can also cut and paste with a path. It will falls into the same position. |

hi guys...
kinda curious actually... what's the difference between the copy/paste method and cut/paste method since they're both on the same background and same location? under what situation do you use the cut/paste method for (ie. effects)? perhaps personal preference? i use copy/paste most of the time. |

when u copy and paste, u make a copy of the original object and paste it elsewhere, (original still intact as u left it)
where as cut and paste, u cut it from its original location, and paste it elsewhere. (original is no longer there, pasted to new location) this not only applies to imaging programs but also in your folder documents/spreadsheets etc etc |
