Hi all,
I've been using my trusted Fuji S2pro for 3+ years (will hit 4 years in Oct). It has served me well and is still going strong. Having said that, am sorely tempted by the upgrade bug, especially when I tried the 30D at SITEX. Have kept all my EOS lenses from the pre-S2 days (when I was using the EOS 5 and then the EOS D30). Appreciate some comments from fellow clubsnappers on whether you think it's worthwhile to upgrade to the 30D!! BTW, has anyone done any image noise comparison (particularly at ISO>800) between the S2 and the 20D/30D? Rgds, Mun Wei |

not many has the experience both systems such as you, buy i dare say canon has the cleanest high iso among all the DSLRs. On the 20D, its fantistic!, if 30D is using the same senor, its a great camera!

Best combination....
Fuji DSLR for shots where you need the DR, Canon DSLR for action shots. |

Just take a properly expose shot and you'll find the DR useless, I find my D200 DR much better than S3 in my opinion. Handles so much better than S3-(F80) plastic body.
I believe 20D or 30D is a very good DSLR also, seen some friends portfolio its especially the ISO, nothing can match it, my D200 honestly comes very close, while S3 noise cannot even compare, wonder how its call a pro? Good luck for you, enjoy your shopping. |

if u r not heavily invested in Nikkor lens...u can always change to the other system.
Having said that, the D200 is a way better cam than the 30D in terms of handling and features. You can also get nice ISO shots with good DR if you expose your pics correctly. This is one reason that sends the price of the full frame 5D tumbling since the introduction of the D200 I guess it's a no brainer for me in choosing between the 30D and the D200. |

i used the s2 before i change to canon.the good thing for canon is the 5fps compare to fuji and nikon.iso is better for canon.and the color are more true to life for canon.
nikon and s2 had a richer color. As for flash photography,u need sometime to get used to canon. because canon fail on the flash side.if u had the sb24 and above,u can save some money and try use nikon flash on canon body,in A mode, the output will be spot on.i had moved from nikon and fuji to canon....it takes time to get hold of the system,a bit tricky sometimes. If i were u,i will keep the s2 and if got extra money than buy the canon.Even the spot metering of the 30d does help a bit only.i had been using spot since i used nikon and fuji.... One is cmos the othe is ccd, very diff to compare...... ccd = richer color cmos = more true color and less noise but all can be adjust to riche color through the ps. Hope this help, just my personnel view. ![]() |

Keep your S2, if you have extra cash, it will be better for you to invest in other stuffs such as len or simply other stuffs. S2 is a good cam if it's in good hands, incld all others cam also. As you said, your S2 is still going strong. So why bother to upgrade when it's still serving you well? ![]() Well, unless you need the canon features for working purposes, then you might want to go ahead. ![]()

Smart choice! If your S2 can serve you for another 10 years, use it. Buying a 30D is not an upgrade, anyway.

Haven't seen the output frm S2Pro yet (although the colour & noise control of S3Pro is excellent I must say). But output from the 20D (assuming if 30D retains the same sensor without any improved algorithims on the DigicII chip) is great at ISO1600. Noise is pretty controlled without splotchy blotches. Ultimately, for me when I'm looking at upgrading, my skill has to go up exponentially according to the price I pay for the particular upgrade (regardless of new lens, new body or system). .

Guys,
I succumbed to temptation. Bought an excellent condition 350D from a fellow Clubsnapper yesterday at a good price. Prelim use indicate that the 350D's noise control is really good, and comparable to the S2pro at high ISOs (i.e. 800 & 1600). At low ISOs, the 350D's images are cleaner. Colour wise, the 350D's images are more neutral, but I've cranked up the saturation and colour balance, so the pics come out nice & warm like the S2's. What I like about the350D are the compact size (bod + kit lens feel like a feather compared to S2 + 24-120VR!) and the nifty flash exposure lock. The lack of ISO display on the LCD, no dedicated button for flash exposure compensation etc are a pain, but not show stoppers. At the price that I bought the 350D, it's really value for money! |

congrats on your purchase! its about time you shifted up the value ladder chain! =)
s2pro had its benefits and advantages there and then... just that.. it felt rather like a half-film/half-digital camera... it was a little slow on the review part as well... yet.. have to admit.. its from camera jpegs were really good... 350D is a whole other story =) |

Well, to be fair to the S2pro, it's a 4-yr old design.
All said, it still cranks out excellent jpegs (I've had 1 family photo enlarged to 20" by 24" and it looks great). The 350D is speedy, but I reckon that the default images are soft (even after adjusting the parameters to full sharpness). To put things in perspective, whether it's a Canon/Fuji/Nikon, it's really the photographer's skill that makes the image! ; ) MW |
