Hi guys, would just like to find out from the users of 10D out there.
I am keen in getting a second hand 10D or 20D, is there much of a diff between these two?? Or the technological difference is just minute?? |

personally i rather have the 10D. the distinct click for the 20D's shutter is really annoying to me. 10D's shutter sounds very smooth.

for the stuff that counts... the buffer of the 20D is much better... i think the auto focus may be improved as well.

Hmmm, I'm on a shoe string budget so deciding between 20D and a 10D... I figure that since it is only the lens that mostly matters, I could save myself some moolah by getting a slightly older body... How bout the shutter count on the body?? Will a high shutter count really affect it that much?? |

The 20D's startup is almost instant compared to the 10D, buffer/shooting speed is also faster. Other than that, besides the MP difference theres really not much. Oh and the 20D accepts EF-S lenses, not that I consider it to be better or anything. The 20D also has 2 additional AF points compared to the 10D.
The shutter unit has a lifespan of about <insertvaluehere>, you can do a search, forgot the exact values. So if you're buying it second hand, best is to ask the owner about his usage, you don't want the camera to die on you while shooting halfway now do you. |

Why I like the 20D:
Much faster startup time, 5 fps continuous shooting, better AF, better noise control at ISO 1600 Why I like the 10D: Quiet shutter (for an SLR), 7-point AF selection (I find the 9-point AF selection for 20D less useful). I kept my 10D when I bought the 20D, but use the 20D most of the time. The 10D serves as a backup for wide angle shots (shutter noise less noticeable at close distance to your subject). In your situation, I would get the 20D. Worth the little extra. |

Other than the louder mirror slap of the 20D, I can't see any reason why you're not going for it. 20D is definitely the choice, with so many advantages over the 10D that was mentioned above.

One thing about efs mount is that u have the option of using the digital ultra-wide angle lens. with 10d u will have limited choice bec it cannot be used with these lens. But that is the case only if u want to shoot really really wide angle pictures

Yo Actionman, a fan of russell peters eh?? He's great!!
One thing was the price that puts me off. Don't know if this is blasphemous but it seems that D70 is selling at a better price then 20D... Haha... I am a SLR user who is thinking of making the switch to Digi after a long long deliberation liao... Am considering the D70 or maybe a 10D or 20D... |

well, call me nuts but i'm a converted 10D fan. If you study the built, 10D seems better, from the battery latch door to the refine shutter. The upgrade to 20D for me was the cleaner iso at 1600.
Given the choice for a hobbist, i take any body that i can afford and grow and both cameras have enough functions to last a hobbist! ![]()

i agree, 10D is really more solid built and all the tiny bits is better than 20D expect for the mode dial, the silkscreen just 'drops' off easily.

Comparison between 10D and 20D and 30D
I won't compare the technology between the cameras, but in terms of built, 10D wins hands down, In terms of built, ergonomic handling, Canon seem to get it right on 10D, but really failed in 20D and 30D. Don't know about you, don't you find the distance between the shutter button and the quick dial seem to be further apart then on the 10D. The joystick seem to be the cause of it. It causes my thumb and index finger to stretch a little more, i get thumb-ache from a whole day of shooting. All the dial bits seem to be a little stiff to turn. the 10D fits pretty comfortably in my hands, i like the grip, seems more ergonomically better in design. My next wish, have the built of a 10D, technology of a better 20D/30D (fix those bugs!) bigger screen 2.5", still a faster buffer rate. A more comfortable distance and angle between the quick wheel dial, and the shutter button. The current design is a little ackward for my hand. Enough of my rambling, which camera do you have? Get a 20D only because of its quicker startup speed and bigger buffer |

Woah guys!! Thanks for the avalanche of advice!! Really appreaciated!
Posting only now coz busy with work!! Anyway, I think I'll go with what Belle & Seb suggested which also makes most economical sense... Buy the one you can afford... nuff said!! I was using a EOS 33 previously, loved the feel on it especially with the grip. Feels solid and operations wise no probs... Hopefully the digital bodies would be similar in feel as my previous cam... Thanks again for the advice guys... you've been most helpful!! |
