Are you inquiring about the f2.8L or the f4L?

Its a fairly lightweight telephoto if you compare it to the f/2.8 version. Image quality wise I cannot tell the difference, if you're not shooting indoors very often without the flash then the f/4L is quite a nice lens to have.

are you a hobbist or you plan to shoot professionally, semi-professionally?
if you are hobbist, i'd suggest looking into the sigma 70-200 2.8 .. a little bit more expensive than the f/4 but 1-stop faster.. if the latter, i'd suggest getting the 2.8L .. either IS or Non-is .. depending on your needs. there are a lot of threads here discussing this topic.. do a search and slowly read up. |

Get the wonderful 135/f2 L. Costs about the same as the 70-200 F4L, but you get superior optical resolution, ultra large aperture for its class of lens and similar build characteristics. With your 350D, the 135mm focal length will be cropped to feel like a 216mm lens. Of course, you won't get the luxury of zooming with your hands. However, i feel that the performance of the 135f2 will make that a non-issue. |

There is no point asking around than actual testing/viewing the lens by yourself. Come and join us for the next CanonGraphers outing and test the lens yourself to see whether you like the weight, AF speed, quality and so for. ![]() Too bad you missed out our recent Macro shoot outing. As you can see for the above photo, EF 135mm f2L and EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS and non IS as well as EF 70-200 f4L were all present. |

Personally i will never recommend a prime to anyone who is looking for a zoom. When you are ready for a prime, you will know it and get one. I am always afraid of recommeding a prime in preferance for a zoom esp when the recomendation is for someone who does not have a prime lens. I dont know if the OP has experience with primes or not, but he will know if he needs one after he uses a 70-200 for an extended period. I found I hate the 50 length on both my rebel and 1DmkII after i bought it. If i used zoom lens and figure out that i never use the 50mm length that often, i would have save some money and time and bought another lens instead...
Anyway the 70-200/4L is a very good value. Sharp and light. However if you feel you need a 2.8 and you are going to get a tripod ring anyway, the sigma is a much much better value... |
