Default Akarui DryCabinet User, your opinion pls...

Hi All...

I am going to purchase a DryCabinet this coming Monday. My present target is the Akarui 56 litre at $166 from Cathay Photo, and this is on Promotion pricing.

Any Akarui user out there care to share your experiences and your opinion on this particular DryCabinet.

My appreciation to all.

I have 2 Akarui 56L dry cabinets, both bought from CP. What I found (to my surprise) was that the hygrometers of both units were not calibrated properly. I noticed the problem initially when I noticed the hygrometer readings of the two were way off from each other (about 20%RH off). Buying a digital hygrometer confirmed the problem. I calibrated the meters myself (too troublesome to send it in). Now I already been using them for more then half a year and so far no other problems.

Used one for the last 3 years, had to repair the spoilt motor at the beginning of the year at CP as it was still under the 5 year warranty period.

Thanks for all input.

Anyway, have changed my mind.

I have bought the Value 78L Dry Cabinet at CK Tangs. They are promoting this model, which is Cream colored, at $288, juz a few dollars more from their Black 49L .

Guess its better to get the bigger one for future expansions of equipment and the price difference is only $20, eventhough more keen on the black one, juz like my 'silver bullet' 717, preferred Sony to have it in black, hmmm... Black is Beautiful .

Juz got my 128mb memory stick, now will start shooting some photos.

I also use the Akarui dry box for about i think 5 yrs oredi ......so far it did not fail me yet. But then i discovered that the hygrometer when i set to medium or slightly above the RH will be beyond recommended safety point of 55. Far beyond will go over 60 or more. Only when i switch to i think "on" mode will it seem to start working and it will go to 40 RH or 30RH.

Just wana check with you as u said that u bought a digital hygrometer and calibrated yourself, how do u do that?

My Akariu cabinet (non-magnetic) is set to high and I am getting 50% to 60%. Spoken to the sale person at CP on this issue, he said that the setting is ok. If it is 30-40%, it may be too dry for equipment. You may want to double check with CP.

The only thing I dislike is that it can't lock tightly. I need to put padding on the lock tongue to have a tightness between the cabinet and the door. This may be the problem of a non-magetic cabinet .....
