guys i'm thinking of getting the following lens, but unsure on which one to get first. and i'm not sure if i'm getting the right lenses and if they will be put to any use by me. kindly enlighten me
1. 70-200 F4L 2. 17-40 F4L 3. 24-105 F4L (upgrading from Tamron 24-105) 4. 100mm f/2.8 mainly i like to shoot nature, landscapes, little potraits and some misc. i am hoping to try macro too but the only "macro" lens i have now is a 50mm reversed in which order should the above 4 lenses be purchased and why? current lens i have are: Tamron 24-135mm F/3.5-5.6, 18-55, 50mm 1.8 on a 1.6x body. |

The tamron 24-135 is a very good lens and best of all, it's cheap too. If you don't have the extra moolah, don't bother upgrading to the 24-105.
I'd recommend purchasing in this order. The reversed 50 method is highly troublesome. 100/2.8(This makes a great portrait lens as well and should serve your macro needs nicely. If you like doing insects you might like to consider a 150mm or a 180mm lens instead) 17-40/4 (You can survive on the 18-55 first. It may become necessary to replace it later as having to stop down to f8 isn't very flexible.) 70-200/4(i don't know why you even need this. It's too short for birds if that's what you're thinking of. It's primarily an events lens, and looking at your needs it's not really necessary. Try the Sigma 70-300/4-5.6 APO Macro Super II instead.) 24-105/4(Last on the priority list. I wouldn't even buy this if I were you, but hey, since you asked for purchasing order, here it is.)

thanks for the tips.
i was looking at the 70-200 F4L simply because i want a white shark in my dry cabi and some times i like to take shots of wedding couples unnoticed. hmmm not considering any other third party this time as i'm trying to make my collection of lens "L".24-105 because i prefer a all round lens to save the trouble of switching lens in a very kan jiong situation i thought it's a good walk around lens? what is this compared to 24-135? what exactly is the difference besides it's constant F4?lets just say i don't have a kit lens. which should my first upgrade? 17-40 or 24-105? i like insects but i know the EF 180 is never going to my in my reach unless i get more jobs ![]()

1. 24-105 F4L
2. 70-200 F4L 3. 17-40 F4L 4. 100mm f/2.8 24-105L is a great walkabout lens. You are right you can save the trouble of switching lens If you may consider the 70-300 IS. Its beats the f4L by one stop. You will also be happy to have many many and much more keptable shot than the f4L. Also dont forget this is a hidden L and with 100mm more range. Have you ever wonder why ppl are seeling this lens (f4L)? I do and still wondering Lastly 17-40 the last buy for landscape and space constrain shot. That is how i see it in the buying order Last edited by lensbaby; 18th March 2006 at 01:13 PM. |

What kind of nature are you shooting? Nature not necessarily mean just birds alone. Macro (plants/insects) is also a type of nature shoot.

http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...56is/index.htm And sinn3r, don't buy a lens cos its an expensive L glass. Yeah it may look good toting a white beast around, boost yr ego etc, but at the end of the day its the pictures that count. |

Hiya, of course KEEPABLE shots are determined by the user. It depends whether he has brought his tripot/monopot along and the luxuary of time/space/orientation to shoot from a supported position
kekeke. Just kidding mate ....
