as the title suggest.. LCA is damn overpriced!! i'm looking for a cheaper alternative.
Even better if the appearance is nice antique looking.. ![]() Last edited by behyx; 16th March 2006 at 01:10 AM. |

Cosina CX-2.
That's the camera on which the lomo was copied from. |

I wonder if you are asking about taking picture or you trying to show off the camera. |

I share the same idea not so long ago. Was looking for one that is old looking and yet can take reasonably good photo. Well found that 135 mm not so antique. If require it to produce good sharp picture then even less antique. There are some not so antique but really proud to own one... like the Nikon S series. But damn ex. You can also look at Electra 112 - make by LoMO factory Also Exa (Exacta). Not expensive, can change lens but not range finder. Hope your find your camera. |

Intesting photoboy, thanks for your recommendations
i foresee myself spending some time looking through ebay for these cameras. hehe!bumortic, i just got a holga (the very basic version) from a good friend.. but i don't think i want to use 135 on it, as it will lose the beautiful vignetting.. |

ANybody got any comments for the Smena 8m by Lomo? Does it produce lomo-ish pictures with those vignetting and sometimes sharp and unsharp pictures?

yes, smena are good lomo cams. If you are getting good at gauging distances, it can yield pretty sharp pictures.

try the agfa optima xx35 series.. which has the same long exposure capabilities of the lomo.. plus a self timer.. the olympus XA series.. a lomo killer with a proven track record.. the yashica electro 35s with big aperture for vignetting.. the fed 50 which has a stellar lens(unfortunately mine is broke down).. cosina cx 2 is also good but getting as expensive as the LCA itself

The Olympus XA2 is the closest match. Great Japanese lens.
Cosina CX-2(used of course) is rare and usually costs more than a used LC-A. The Smena 8M is fully manual, no hotshoe and the winding is a pain in the ass. :P The Smena 35 or Symbol will be better options although I much prefer the vintage look of the 8M. They are all very affordable. The Agfa xx35 series are good too but rare and don't come cheap as well. The Holga is a completely different story. It's a medium format with plastic lens(glass on some but I thought what's unique abt the Holga is the all-plastic toy cam feel). Although you can mod it to fit 135 film, it yields more dreamy subdued colors and not sharp rich pics like what you're expecting from the Lomo LC-A. Hope that helps. ![]() |

yup, xa is the only one that comes close.
chinon belami is close as well, but the manual functions are not there. low shutter speed is not there as well. cosina cx 1 or 2 is the prefered choice for me. smena will not produce lca like images. it is a good camera that demands basic photography knowledge in zone focusing, guessmatic for shutter speed and aperture. no meter build in. use the eye. :P and if you really have time and interest. can mod a holga to take 135mm film. you'll get the perforation when you scan the film. cool heaps~ |

hi behyx,
ever since i bought the Olympus XA, i've not been using my LC-A much (but im still gonna keep the LC-A). i have 2 x XA and 1 x XA2. im keeping one of the XA for my own use since its still my favourite compact rangefinder. im selling the extra XA and the XA2 in the following links: XA with A11 flash: here XA2 with A9M flash: here let me know if anyone here is interested. prices can be negotiated but must be reasonable. cheers. |

if you really want a good xa~
get a xa4 if you can lay ya hands on one. xa is good as well. there's the one with the actual split finder. (and xa4) other xa-s are using guesstimation. ![]() |
