Hi there,

You can try to check out this list by Pablo to see if your digital camera is capable of IR. If not, you can do the remote control test as mentioned by Max2.8 in this thread to check, however, the remote control test is not fool-proof.

Hi there,

You can read the thread by Max2.8, it will shows you the basics of doing IR photography.

If not, you can try to join us for an IR outing where you can seek more advice and help.

I thought you are using a film camera for IR from your post.

Can know which digital camera you using?

Now you can tell your friend that digital cameras are capable of IR, but then the results are slightly different from film IRs.

Shooting with a Koday HIE film and shooting digital Infrared is two different things, I done both, and I prefer to shoot in digital now, for economy and convenient, but I like the way HIE render the b/w infrared look, and sadly I can't duplicate HIE truthfully on digital.

Not all film cameras can use to shoot Infrared films, the older the better.
you need to load the film in total darkness,
you have to compensate focusing for infrared wavelengths,
you have to braketing exposure like mad,
you would be happy if 3 or 4 frames turn out to be usable from a roll of 36 exposures,
if you don't do your own processing and printing, you will never master shooting Infrared on film.
