some are real good for their price. No complain. But of course original company's lens is best in terms of quality but sometimes not very affordable.

I generally don't think too much about third party lenses these days.

I had gone through the whole lot, some are good, most are average, and a few are really bad. Comparing consumer grade lenses, they stood up well, in terms of price and quality, against the camera manufacturers' lenses. However, when comparing professional grade lenses, the third party products is definately lagging, at least in quality.

    haha
all the comments are very interesting, of course the quality not as good but some prices almost half of the original glass man....

must weigh pros and cons unless the only thing impt to one is GOOD photo at ALL COST (BBB)...

Nothing much of them. Like "Deadpoet" mentioned, a handful good, mostly average and some bad. Can never compare to professional grade lenses, especially when you're comparing with Canon and Nikon, you would be in for a big difference. Well, unless of course, the third party comes in the flavour of Carl Zeiss........

Buy the best lens you can afford. Buy fewer lenses if that is what you ned to afford that premium quality glass. You really do not need that many lenses. I shot with a 35 mm and a 135 mm for 10 years before I got my third lens.

Some limitation is good to get your creative juices flowing.

Yeah I agree. Forces you to actually learn how to use your equipment and overcome the limitations. Also good for your pocket.

I only choose Tamron as my 3rd party lens brand.

Now that i am using Olympus E-330, the only 3rd party lens there is is Sigma. Cheap if buy from Ebay. I just bought Sigma 18-125mm at S$305 wif shipping. Am also considering buying a 55-200mm as it's only S$260.

My preference is to stick with the current manufacturer's kit lens (if it comes bundled with it). Overcome it's limitations and at the same time save up for the dream lens.

I use whichever lense that does the tricks at the price I can afford. I'm just shooting as a hobby, and I find some 3rd party lenses good enough for what I take. In term of optical qualities, there a few very good 3rd part lenses that will shame the original 'pro' grade lenses.

for 1, the sigma 70-200 is a winner. priced slightly cheaper thn the nikon/canon oem counterparts but delivers apparently identical images.

the tokina 12-24 is also an excellent lens, cetris paribus, its build quality alone is comparable with nikon's. i once dropped it on my parque floor and the floor dented instead.

Best is of cos buy original lens as resale value's also higher. But 3rd party ones such as Tamron, Sigma and Tokina have lenses that can match original's quality.
