The Lomo LC-A is NOT a plastic cam. The plastic ones are the 'Action Sampler' and 'Super Sampler' and are made in China. The LC-A is made of steel (in Russia) with a Japanese multi-coated glass lens. F/stop from 2.8 to 22 and also Auto. It's a shutter-priority camera that WILL vignet. Focus is adjusted manually. The reason why some of us like the LC-A is because it produces very vibrant and saturated results from ordinary ASA100 film. Hope this helps.

Because the Lomography society has, through marketing, increased the demand on this crap, causing the demand to increase, driving up prices.

The Action Sampler costs $69, Super Sampler $95, Holga (without flash) $42, Holga with flash $64, POP 9 $95 and LC-A $330. And NO, I don't work for them.

The 'special / random effect' one your dad spoke of is most likely the 'Action Sampler' or 'Super Sampler'. I've taken a few shots with my LC-A and you can see them here.

Yeah I have read quite a lot of bad press on the lomography society which is basically a marketing arm hyping up the price of the Lomo cameras. In actual fact the lomography society has sole propority rights to sell the lomo cam outside russia thus they are marketing it to make it a pop culture thing. Hmm I wonder if I can use my G1 and badly focus it make achieve the same effect as a lomo LC-A

Still $280 for a steel cam like this is still pretty high and there seems to be a lot of cam where the shutter just died or jam. Was read that the best fix for this is to run the cam down a flight of stairs.

$280? I think it's very expensive. Why spend so much to get those blurry, overly saturated pictures the marketeers call "Lomography"? I believe $280 can get you a nice Olympus Mju II which takes far better pictures. And you can do whatever you like to them in Photoshop.

Lomography is a fad, it's the marketeer's way to get millions of people to buy the Lomo cameras, so they promote this form of "art" called Lomography whereby you basically just anyhow shoot.

Just my 2 frames worth.

Glad you like the photos and thanks for your compliments.

When you use digicams, any effect can be achieved via Photoshop (according to your level of proficiency).

As for the action sampler and Holga, I can't comment as I have not used them yet. However, Nekogotch did snap some very nice photos with the Holga. You can PM him for more info.

Ahhh~~~, so you've noticed that shot. It was taken outside Zouk at around 9:15 pm. Appature was set at 'Auto' (after depressing the shutter release you have to hold on to it as the shutter will only close after there's enough light to expose the film.) As that guy was moving it created the 'movement'. You can bring the LC-A anywhere you go as it really is a very small camera. I used to carry it in my pocket wherever I went. It revived my interest in photography.

save it for a better lens...hahaha...but i think if u get the holga...which costs like 60 bucks...i think u can juz bring it around and shoot stuff...

but den again it's money too...hahaha...

i think this LC-A is kinda ex....way over the other competitors i feel..

LOMO shots are :

1. Badly exposed
2. Badly composed
3. Not sharp most of the time
4. Weird colours
5. Cropped at funny places

Just go out with ANY camera, anyhow shoot, then come back, anyhow process you'll get the same effect. Dun need $280 to do that.

The alternative is always a cheap digital camera and photoshop.
