as above. wanted to do a watermark type of text but can't find any transparency control for text.

After typing your text select the 'Clear Emboss' in text effect.

You can find the transparentcy control in the layers panel.

neither are found in my elements 3.0. look like i have to upgrade to CS somehow....

I'm using elements 3.0 for mac. here is a screenshot of the opacity control in the layers panel:
