Default Travel Light - Regional Photo trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia

As mentioned, COL will be organising an overseas phototrip, hopefully with participation from the photo clubs/forums from the other regional countries. We're inviting participants from www.fotografer.net (Indonesia), www.photomalaysia.com (Malaysia), www.photo.com.vn (Vietnam) on this joint phototrip.

    TRAVEL LIGHT

A regional photo journey by photoenthusiasts from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand & Vietnam.

A mock up of the poster for the trip.....

    Proposed Details:

Date : starts on a Friday and ends in Singapore on a Tuesday.
    Likely slots, 14-18 Jul 06, 29 Jul - 01 Aug 06 or 05-08 Aug 06.
Particpants : 80-100 photographers in total. 20 photographers from each country namely : Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand & Vietnam.
Budget breakdown : Not more than S$600.
Who can take part : Any photoenthusiasts who have the minimal equipment to get great pictures.

    Details:

    1. All land package including accommodations, breakfast, airport transfer, transport, guides, picture permit, pass for the Angkor Archelogical Park, boat ride charges has been estmated to come up to about US$300 (abt S$486). Visa to Cambodia to be settled by individual, cost abt S$40 to do in Singapore's Cambodia consulate, or US$40 to do at Siem Reap Airport. This is a best estimate, will be confirmed when all details are out. All other expenses is at the individual's discretion.

    2. All itinerary has been planned by Siem Reap Photographers & owners of guesthouse. The details of the guesthouse can be found in www.peaceofangkor.com. The itinerary has been tried out by Tuck Hong last week (who went up there to recce) and have been very fantastic according to feedback. The committee will update the itinerary once confirmed.

    3. All participants who go on the trip finally are required to contribute at least one best print for the Photo exhibition after the trip within the next 6 months. The prints for the exhibition may need to go through a judging process. However, all rights to the images will still be vested with the respective photographer. COL will however, have the rights to use any of the selected photos for the marketing or promotion collaterals for any of the COL events without any payments to the photographer.

    4. Any participant who desired to attend this trip will have to be on either one or both the following committees:

    a. Trip Organising Committee
    - Involved with the planning and coordinating of the trip within Singapore and with the regional photographers who will be attending.

    b. Trip Photo Exhibition Committee
    - Involved with the planning and coordinating of the photo exhibition within the next 6 months after the trip.

IF U ARE NOT PREPARED TO COMMIT YOUR TIME & RESOURCES TO BE IN EITHER COMMITTEES, WE WOULD CONSIDER YOU ON A WAITING LIST OR SIMPLY DON;T SIGN UP. PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN T PEOPLE WHO ARE READY TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE TRIP.

    5. We would only consider participants who have a minimal camera equipment that could capture images of reasonable quality to be eligible for the trip. We do not discriminate against film or digital users nor 35mm Medium format or Large format users. Handphone camera, consumer camera users will be put on a lower priority should you be interested to sign up. Please note that we set this rule in view of the need to get quality on images for the post trip exhibition. But we welcome photoentthusiats of any level of proficiency to take part. Past experience has tell us that handphone camera and consumer camera fall short of the quality needed to do a proper exhibition print.

We can only take 20 photoenthusiasts from Singapore. So, please sign up here if you are keen to go. Also, pls indicate which committee u want to be in behind your name.
After you have sign up you name, pls PM me you name, contact number, valid email address and passport number & expiry date so that we can get the orgainsing committee formed. Please indicate the type of equipment you are likely to use during the trip. We also welcome people who are keen to be helping in the committee but will not be going for the trip. Give us a PM if you are one of these passionate guy/gal....

    Very interesting concept!
Any additional cost imposed for the exhibition after the trip?
Does Panasonic LX1 meet your 'minimum equipment' requirement?

To put it simply, the output of the equipment must be able to allow printing or enlargement of minimum A3 size or 12x16 inch size. This is the minimal size for a exhibition print.

For previous trip, we experienced problem when the consumer digicam poses great challenge while we're preparing to print for the exhibition. The image suffers from pixelation due to low resolution and also the maximum size it could go to was only an A4 size. It become a odd sized image during the exhibition among all others which are minimum A3 size.

So, the safest bet will be SLR, digital or film. Medium & large format definitely would not have any problem.

Not familiar with Panasonic cameras, u may just want to shoot something and try printing to the exhibtion size and decide for yourself.

For the exhibition costs, we're still talking to Sponsors. So, the costs will only drop and not increase. the worst scenario is everyone in the exhibtion pay a portion which when shared out among such a big group of people, it's a small amount to do an exhibtion featuring your own work.

But having said all that, we still welcome anyone to come onboard as long as u got the passion and enthusiasm to be part of the trip.

    Hi,
What is the minimum pixel dimension of a digital pic to print out nicely in A3 without pixelation? 6MP enough? Or need 8MP or more? How about D2H (4MP) users?

Isn't 80-100 photographers too big a group to travel around? What does COL stands for?

Sounds like an interesting concept. Uppzzz for you.

If you interpolate properly the pixellations should not be obvious.

    Just fyi.
For Singapore passports, there is no need for visas.
But it will be easier if you have a passport-sized photo for your pass to Angkor temples.
    Hope this helps.

just come back from four days shooting at siem reap, what a great place to photograph, costs: non singaporean visitor $25 USD cambodian entry visa, $25 USD exit pass (airport tax - all must pay) (note if you stayover in phnom Penn on the way out then you also have to pay another USD$25 air port tax, Ankor Wat pass 3 days USD$40 or 4-6 days USD$60, tuk tuk transport is really cheap with the guest houses arranging a driver who will stay with your from sun up to sundown is just $12USD per day
Food and booze is really cheap under $6 USD for a great meal at one of the many safe and fine establishments along pub street areas. Plan your days around shooting in the morning from 7.30am till about 11am ( too hot and too strong light after 11) then resuming shooting from 2.30pm till sunset in the afternoon when the light starts to go golden. There is a lot to see there and airfares are really competative now.
