Try shooting at different angle & focus hard. You will see the effects.

The second is better, much better composition, but still looks a little soft to me.

The first one also looks distorted to me

yeah.. the first one was shot hand-held over the dessert.. so it was kinda hard to make really sure i was directly overhead. I wanted to try a different perspective.

On hindsight, I shld prob have used a smaller aperture than 1.8 (was using 50mm).

The second shot was a more "conventional" angle but I guess DOF was too shallow too.

meaning. dont jus focus on the tart. make some side objects which might complement the main product
