Cover the lens of the camera with your something so that everything turns black. See if there are any white pixels. Aim your camera at something white with no patterns, see if there are any black pixels. for a more thorough check, bring along a red, blue and green card and aim your camera at the card and see if any of those pixels are spoilt - meaning they don't display red or blue or green when they are suppose to.

More importantly is checking if the CCD has any dead pixels or hotspots.
Take 1 shot with the Cover On... You should get a totally black pix. Take another slow shutter shot against something bright... you should get a totally white pix. Then either view it at full zoom via the LCD... you'll need to scroll. Or better yet, download to a PC/Notebook to check... Check for color inconsistencies... if you see them... repeat the procedure and find out if they happen at exactly the same spot... (Some may be dust) Faulty CCD frequently shows up as a single bright pixel in a dark pix... |
