Default 26 Feb 06 Macros: Spiders

Was at Toa Payoh yesterday, and saw the 2 striped telamonia again...I think the same fella as before. Manage to take a small lynx with a type of mosquito or fly and a heavy jumper.

Appreciate any comments please. Thanks!

FZ10+6T+Sigma CU, ISO 50, F8.

#1: Lynx with meal

#2: Heavy Jumper

#3: Portrait view

#4: Two Stripe Telomonia
Had to use direct flash, as somehow, the bounce flash was not able to provide sufficient light. Had to PS the shadows to soften it.

Always enjoyed your pictures bro!

#1 The black portion is slightly distracting. And, overall feel doesn't give you that attention grabbing moment. I feel only ah..

#2,#3 Nice details. Exposure a little underexposed or not ah? And somehow, too tight compos.

#4 I not too used to square compositions le.. hee hee just a personal preference I suppose.
#5 #6 I prefer shooting this spider face to face.. with its eyes level with my camera and facing the camera. And #6 has a colour cast?

Sorry ah.. so many things to say! Just my personal opinion only.. 1 cents worth only. cheers!

Thanks so much for your critique. Value your views very much.....and helps me know what to look out for the next time!

abt the underexposed thing, not too sure what to do also. Levels to much, the creamy patch below the eye become white. So have to do something abt my exp next time.

Compo wise, I like to be tighter.....but like I said b4, its a preference thing.....like to crop out things that distract the user.....but maybe i should try to be abit more wide like your first JS shot.

Noted on #5 and #6. Agree with you.

Thanks again!

Nice catch! Where are all the Heavy Jumper in my area??

Anyway, for #1, with the action involved, I think BG is the least important. For me, it's more important to capture both insect in focus and the angle must be able to identify the species. I think you capture #1 very well. To nitpit, maybe the opposite angle with the mossies eyes in frame would make a more impact shot

#2, #3 and #4 are excellent in exposure and sharpness! Just a personal preference, I feel that they are too tight in framing.

I prefer #5 to #6 due to the distracting top brown leaf. However, I prefer the PP of #6. #5 seems over sharpen

Thanks for the comments!

I do have a shot of #1 head on:

Not sure if this is what you meant though. I had a eye level view, but the mosquito was blocking the Lynx view....hence had to use a higher angle.

Noted the tight framing. Must try other composition.

he he, agree for #5 that is over sharpen.....i think I over did my USM have to watch my tendency to USM everything.....

Thanks again.
