Given how similar it looks to the link I posted, if it IS the 500mm f/4, it's 3.43 KG.

first look at the title, and i though you are talking about the sigma 50-500mm lens.

think he is that kind of rich people who bought the lens, and don't know how to use it.
for me, i would surely turn the collet out of the way for my hand to hold onto the lens barrel.

did any of you notice the lens seems bend around the collet area? or is it just me?
imagine how his back will hurt after the 2 hours?

Actually I like to have to collar to rest on my palm

I was shooting with the sigma 50-500 yesterday. Got some pretty good shots at the 500mm reach. Heavy lens but definitely handhold-able. I prefer to turn the collar up when I am handholding the lens. It's so uncomfortable to have it sticking into the palm... but I guess it's really personal preference.

I second that for my Sigma 70-200. But I don't think that it'll work for this lens.

I think you're right. The triangular depression is all the way at the front of the lens

The 500mm has that depression on the second smaller ring from the front of the lens, not the frontmost hood like this one.

You should turn the collar up... unless your collar is those small small ones like Nikon 70-180 Micro or AF-D 80-200 then no problem. Collars like the bigma or 70-200 should be taken off when handholding

Just something which may be comfortable for me.

I find that when I have the collar of my Sigma 70-200 f2.8 on the bottom, I can easily turn either the zoom ring or the focus ring. But if the collar is to either side, then it'll be more difficult for me to turn the zoom ring.

Klose, what about you?
