    Pros: Great features.
Cons: Poor lens contrast, Image processing overdone. Details lost in contiguous colours. Little or no continuity between models, ie need to relearn UI.

Yes many photographers still remember that historic year which they blew big holes in their pockets.

Just another thank you for this thread. It is important to find out
from end users what they think. Those who unknowingly creates a
possible flaming tail should be warned.

I find the facts given by experienced end users useful.
The manufacturers are also delighted by all the findings
and they get them for free.

I used both systems for their pros but for saving more money in my
pocket especially when I need more lenses I prefer the long standing
Nikon's philosophy and their history since 1940s.

For the technology savy buyer, Canon is well known for creating a virus that could seem that the equipment the buyer has is inferior. However, being contented with what you have would almost completely eliminate this virus.

As we have all noticed, Canon comes out with a new DSLR once in almost 9 months.

However, I can dare say that USM AF system is faster than AFS/SWM system. A noted observation after using both brands. At the same time, this is only noticable in certain conditions.

how abt HSM and the late SSM? some afs lenses r fakes like the d50kit lens, its just quiet. af depends on the body oso, it wont be fair if u used a 1dsmk2 and a d70

Your last statement maybe true that I am not able to make that kind of a comparison.

The two brands are just simply different in how they work. Canon AF system is built into the lens and there is only communication between the body and the lens.

For Nikon, it is in the reverse. AF system is built into the body and that explains why there are different CAM modules. Eg. CAM 2000, CAM 1100, CAM 900 and so on and so forth.

I have been told that HSM so far works best on a Canon and not so much on a Nikon.

But honestly speaking let everything be equal, would we able to honestly tell the difference in AF speeds? Letting knowledge of how does each AF system work, the same conditions, so on and so forth.

I honestly think that it will not matter much. The only thing is why we are even discussing these things is because we personally favour one brand over the other.

from a technological point of view.
    pros:
    - CMOS sensor techonology offering low noise at high ISO
    - Improvements made to their products lead to a CHEAPER price. (eg: 1D2 -> 1D2N, 20D->30D)
    - Good and rather consistent WB.
    - mostly (if not always) leading the technology advancement (eg: CMOS, IS, USM, wireless flash)
    - does not play down short-comings with reasons like "it was not designed for this purpose" (eg: 20D -> 20Da). this part I respect and salute.

    cons:
    - I'll fill this portion later when I think of something.

    Canon -

Pro : FULL FRAME, 1.3x crop available to photographers
Cons: Loud shutter sound, ugly white lens, not user friendly interface

But I would say the advantage of Full Frame alone will make up for the cons.

Personally I think having a lens that's white is both a pro and a con. If the photographer likes attention and gets it, then it's a 'pro'. If not, then it's a 'con'. However I find that any large lens attracts lots of attention. That said, I don't mind using a lens that's white, as long as it fulfills my needs and purpose. And if I stick to quiet places like Sungei Buloh, I doubt if it's going to draw too much attention.

I agree with you about the shutter sound, and wish the one on my camera could be quieter.
